Re: OT: Irvine, Wanted Dead or Live
Its just Eddie "Playboy" Irvine's ways to be news object?
Anybody know the other stories about F1 drivers, or former driver, who has been hunting by police because criminal or other case? |

There was a big story about Mike Hawthorn in 1956 (ish) because he avoided compulsory military service. But it was later discovered that he had a congenital kidney disease and flat feet so was actually refused enlistment. It served to spice up the Formula One season that year though.

We all know the story of Bertrand Gachot, who was driving for Jordan in 1991 until he got in trouble by solving a traffic incident in London using a 'CS can' against taxi driver Eric Court, which resulted in a prison sentence for the Belgian.
Eddie Jordan's car # 32 was left with no driver for the next Grand Prix at Spa. Who to turn to ? Eddie first thought of Stephan Johansson, who had a lot of F1 experience. Alessandro Zanardi, who was in F3000 at that time, was another candidate. Eddie Jordan finally choose Michael Schumacher, who immediately impressed everyone with a stunning seventh place on the grid for his first Grand Prix, on one of the most demanding circuit in the world. His teammate Andrea De Cesaris, who was considered to be a very fast driver (he led the race on that circuit for many laps in 1983 before retiring), qualified more than seven tenths behind the German... "The only resentment I still have is towards the British justice system. I was sent to prison because someone wanted to make an example of me. It certainly didn’t help my racing career — but what it did teach me is how quickly your life can be completely turned around if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time." concluded the former Formula One driver Gachot. |

Why is he avoiding this though? He was caught speeding on a scooter without a license, but kids all over my town do that and they still go to court. And get off scot-free....

Seems he will be found driving BBC'S Jetsetters around L.A this week - maybe somebody ought to warn him not to go on BBC TV if he is on the run

I read in Autosport that when he was in Formula Renault Kimi Raikkonen went AWOL from military service in Finland and was tracked down, arrested and spent 2 weeks in prison before he was allowed out for a race at Donington. It was in an issue immediately after his Malaysia win last year.

It's such a silly case to be running away from.....he's in serious trouble when they catch up with him, and it's needless really.
