Raikkonen downbeat...again

In an interview today, Kimi Raikkonen is again downbeat about McLarens chances at Melbourne:http://f1.racing-live.com/en/index.html

"The car has various technical problems, we'll be lucky to finish at Melbourne....it's looking unlikely at the moment."

We've talked a lot about sandbagging here at ten-tenths over the winter, but Kimi seems really down here?

All will be revealed in a few weeks thankfully - I think we have to take all this off season chatter with a pinch of salt.

Not sure what to make of it all and i have to agree with what Ralf fan says with regards to Ron not being happy.

They were fastest last week, but they also had technical problems.

I thought he is starting to sound like JV. He's been doing a lot of talking lately when he should probably keep his mouth shut.

Clearly McLaren is sandbagging as everyone keeps suggesting. In fact I believe through most of 2003 they were driving slower simply so people wouldn't expect them to be fast in 2004.

Hedging his bets methinks or becoming the voice of the Macs - well, with DC out next year, perhaps Ron's told him to get in some 'public speaking' practice!

Agree with ralfie; the car launch is the right place and moment for hyper-optimism; now it's time for prudence and hiding...

I don't buy his comments. The car is the fastest thing out there one minute and the next it's one of the slowest?

Coulthards been sandbagging for about 8 years, to lure everyone into a false sence of security, and this year he's gonna......do exactly the same.

This is something i dont like about F1, all the talk before it, were fast, they're not challengers, etc.

These latest comments have nothing to do with car speed - it's all about reliability, which is hardly something that McLaren would fake as part of an elaborate sandbagging process. Nobody makes an engine catch fire for a decoy in testing!

I haven't heard that one before "sandbagging" and apart from meaning what smokey said about luring the others into a false sense of security can anyone tell me where it came from, or is it a term just used around here.

I presume it means to weigh something down (using sandbags) thus slowing it down. Obviously putting actual sandbags in the car is silly, after all, where would the driver sit
