It is the most beautiful race car I've ever seen. I'm in Love. Really.

By the way, where is indycool? He always said this car was nothing but a bunch of scribbles on toilet paper. But here it is.

NEW CHAMP CAR TURNS FIRST FULL-SPEED TESTING LAPS AS DP01 BEATS THE HEAT IN FLORIDA

SEBRING, Fla. (August 22, 2006) -- The future of open-wheel racing turned its first full-tilt testing laps today as the new DP01 Champ Car ran more than 100 trouble-free miles at Sebring International Raceway on a scorching Tuesday in Central Florida.

The new Panoz-built DP01, which will be the exclusive chassis to compete in the 2007 Champ Car World Series, completed its first full day of testing on the 1.67-mile Sebring course in the capable hands of former Champ Car and Formula 1 driver Roberto Moreno.
They had said they'd have 1000 miles on it by the end of August - they'd better get cracking, they've got 8 days!

I've heard they actually did a quick shakedown on Sunday at Road Atlanta before shipping off to Sebring, so it's no surprise that the "official" first test didn't have bits fall off.

Most teams with custom chassis ie F1 tend to shakedown test first...

I agree with the compliments given to this new chassis...

Not only is it gorgeous, but IMO, it makes the Lola look like an ugly duckling...

Agreed, but all three were lovely.

Nevertheless, this Panoz is still quite a looker, so can't wait to see it in action!

Yeah! We surely do miss ol' Pupo. Maybe he'll come back with the new car and new teams. We can always hope.

Another good pic of Roberto (and the car) here.

Let me see. 36 cars should be on order at minimum considering 9 teams currently competing with 2 cars and 2 spares needed. It would be nice to see the order for cars somewhere in the range of 48 or more. Ordres please!
