Colin, that is, strictly, not quite true; the rules do state that one must let the "charger" through after the third waved blue flag - or it's equivalent light - has been shown to the backmarker.

Isn't that just modern F1? I have to admit that's not my understanding of the situation.

DAYTONASME should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Monaco Historique

......all really good points, well made.........but seeing the owner of an Alfa Monza driving downhill on a "live" circuit, outside the Hermitage hotel, is one of the craziest things I've ever seen standing trackside...

Surely there has to be improved guidelines for race competence, so it doesn't end up being "all the gear, no idea"?

The balance between 'rich enthusiast' and need for income, is a delicate one, the sport nneds people who can afford to own and race historic cars, (well when I say NEEDS, that is just a sad fact of life), but they should respect the sport, and all competitors. We have seen examples of slower cars/drivers causing problems for faster cars, either due to inexperience or lack of attention to mirrors, and while one does not want to discourage such people from taking part, there must be solution. Perhaps a system of 'penalty points' might work.
For any misdemenour a warning should be given for the first event, and after that points added to a drivers record, so that if poor driving persists, then appropriate action applied. If you owned an historic car and liked to race it, but found it difficult to obtain an entry for meetings, it might concentrate the mind.
After all such a system would probably lead to an increase in standards overall, but sideline the awkward squad.

I get me hat!

Monaco , Goodwood and Le Mans Classic suffer from either drivers who have no experience and paid lots of dosh to race or as bad retired proper drivers who are under the illusion that it’s a proper race with no quarter given. One of those the older I get the faster I was!
Both groups of drivers are equally dangerous
The best historic know who to give a wide berth to
But sometimes not even that works

I disagree, having been on both ends of the scale. It's quite possible to gently move over in a safe and predictable way, on the Lavant straight or Mulsanne for example, but you don't just get out of the way half way down Paddock Hill. It may not be the drivers inexperience, he may just be in a period correct slower car.

IF you're approaching a slower car with notable speed differential the last thing you want is a sudden move, closest I've come to a big one was exactly that halfway through Clearways, car veered left , I put my car into a spin to avoid it, if he'd held his line I'd have a whole straight to pass safely.

Spot on.

There is a certain arrogance that creeps in.

You may be able to buy the car/prep/drive but not the talent or dignity to finish off the podium in one piece.

'Twas always thus in my experience and in just about every form of motorsport. Some too are in are elevated places making the imposition of conduct rules virtually impossible.

At Monaco (in particular) there have always seemed to be specific places that attract problems for attempted passing events. Full GP weekend or enthusiastic Historic events both afflicted, though maybe the busiest incident points are a little different for each type.

In the special case of the Historics (given the cost of repairs as far as the owners are concerned) might it be possible to instigate some sort of "no passing" zones at 2 or 3 of the problem areas? Places that are often misjudged by both passer and passee?

Or would that simply move the problem elsewhere on the circuit?
