I can still hear the radio ad for Liverpool speedway
The place of pace, Frank Oliveri's left hand turn freeway, BE THERE!
The man had a way with words as I cannot remember anymore of the ad, just that one line. And yes we were there.

He brought a lot to the sport and gave it plenty too - on top of that gave us the soundtrack for a lengthy era, always thinking ahead too.
RIP Mike Raymond - you'll be fondly missed by many many thousands of people.

His gift of the gab was remarkable, and his wit was legendary.
My favourite in 1987 "Who put the sauce on the Eggenbergers?"

Slightly off topic but due to the broadcast using it at Bathurst with Seven/PRIME Sport, I went and brought that ELP track on iTunes.
Edit: This along side Mike's commentary brings back a lot of memories watching the V8's with my Dad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i6XQH8jgSo

A lot of the music was copied (but in a good way) from the NASCAR telecasts of the day.
The intro themes from the early eighties spring to mind.

Later used the same music as the BTCC. For many years I had this as the ring tone on my phone.

Jewelled was the intro music for the “Top Gear RAC Rally Reports” on the BBC in the mid-80s (actually they still used it through the 90s)
ATN7 used Jewelled from 1986-1989, then moved to Fanfare in 1990 as that became the entire 7 Network sports theme

Just watching V8 Classics Vol 2, with the touring car round at Bathurst must be 1994. Mike starts chatting to Dick Johnson just as the rear wing fails on the Falcon at the chase.

The recently released DVD The SuperTouring Years features Mike in is last full time TV commentary gig - the '99 Australian Super Touring Championship.
Despite being one of the parents of the 5 litre formula Mike's professionalism shines through calling the 2 litre series with Allan Moffat.
