Tempting to go for Merc with their improvement but it was really a breeze for RBR, even with Max's hobbled DRS. Another couple of wins and more fragility from Ferrari and Max is going to be long gone in the WDC.

The best team (and the worst) was an interesting question after this weekend.


I will start by saying that the biggest question mark for me is McLaren. They started the year with Mercedes as having missed the mark. Both their cars was worse than the year before. This weekend both brought a bunch of new parts, and for Mercedes it made all the difference in the world. For McLaren, it seems to have done nothing at all, or maybe made them slightly slower, which is a terrible result! Then again, Norris ended in the points and was driving a physical race feeling really unwell. Was he actually hiding some of the potential of the car? Daniel Ricciardo was just slow, but was it the case that the car still is too slow, or was he hiding the potential of the car. Either the team has done a decent job, and their drivers not being able to use it? It would be very disappointing if DR once again cause McLaren to slip down a step instead of going forward. Sadly, as I like the guy, he lost them 3rd place last year. If Norris feeling well and is seriously quick next weekend, then the team is actually doing well, and they need a new second driver. Or are they not just good enough as a team?


Alpine then, they brought home two cars in the points, looks to be decently fast but very finicky. If they could only be this good in every race they might be climbing.


Alfa Romeo is an odd one, as Bottas seems to be doing better and better, and his teammate not so much. I know he is a rookie, but I wonder why he seems to get all the bad luck. But, their car is good and if they could bring it all together they could be killer. A for effort, but not really there.


Ferrari gets a pat on the back as well. They keep doing great stuff, and Binotto has not sniped at Carlos even though he clearly think Leclerc is the second coming of christ. They act like a team, but just had one of those weekends.


RBR I dislike on principle, but my hat off to them for doing well. Not much to be said.



But, my vote for effort goes to Mercedes. They have had a dog of a car, has written off any title ambitions, but have put their heads down and figured out what makes the car tick. With those two fabulous drivers and a team that works together like that. Look at the constructor's standings. No nonsense engineering, leadership and driver skill. Extremely impressive.

Despite the DRS problems, my vote went to RBR.

Could not vote Ferrari or Alfa Romeo due to breakdowns. I could not vote Mercedes due to their issues at the end of the race, even though they have had their best race of the season.

Could not vote for McLaren or Alpine as they did nothing spectacular.

That just leaves the non-scorers. So RBR it is despite the DRS problem that would have cost them if it were not for LeClerc's breakdown.

I'm not saying you are wrong, because your opinion is your and valid as such. But, I must wonder if your own rules also would rule out RBR? They did have issues which I think compares to Mercerdes.



But, I agree they did not make any mistakes, and maximized what they could in a very controlled manner, as a team.

I don't dislike them on principle. I dislike them because of some extremely dislikeable people in senior positions. But like Andreas, I had to give it to them because they clearly outperformed every other team where it mattered.

I was pleased to see Mercedes starting to get a handle on things though.

Red Bull is an obvious candidate, but it would've been nice for Pérez to have been left to take the win at this point of the season. Perhaps spurred him onto greater things?

For me, it's Mercedes. My criteria for this includes their improvement they've brought to this Grand Prix, the performance of the two drivers and even the team's lift and coast order, which must have been annoying, but showed a level-headedness. It was so satisfying to see George holding off Max for so long. I could've stayed on-board with that all the time.

thought Leclerc should have pitted earlier (basically the lap after Perez pulled in for his first stop). who knows if that would have made a difference and have yet to read about the reasons of his failure but in that heat im not sure what they were thinking with the longer stint?

hindsight though.

RB managed their drivers both in keeping Max on the ledge and working out their finishing order...which i have no problems with at all.

imo there is an art form to pulling it off efficiently and while there may be some (expected) grumblings after the fact by the driver who was asked to move over, overall RB do this better then anyone else.
