Thank you for the best wishes,Just back from lovely run.First day of spring and the sun is shining.I could not help but think this is the first year that dear John Smith who had his Birthday the day before me 19/03.yesterday is no longer with us.
I spent a while thinking about what a good bloke he was and very good C of the C. Probably told you the story of Masters Brand Hatch meeting a few years ago. We were having problems with Jim Woodley Galaxie "another dear friend gone". 8.30 am Saturday and I seek out John. There he is having a fag at the bottom of control tower. " John! John! " I say ,I am in trouble. The fag gets stubbed out and he is on the radio and gets all the marshal's and crew to their post and then lets me out before the racing starts at 9 am to try out the car. Needless to say I got as far as Hawthorne's and conked out. Miss you John ,RIP. |

Happy Birthday, Iain, you young brat
Thanks to Grant for that clip - indeed a Royce could be an interesting vehicle in which to circulate at a circuit Actually interesting at Doc's today - got a call about half an hour before with rules of engagement - arrive at back door, stay in my car, ring a specific number, then doctor will come out to collect me.......worked out pretty much like that, apart from phone rang out unanswered for a few tries....but eventually Doc was ready and I was ushered in, being issued with a facemask (which I found inordinately difficult to tie - I did say I should have taken my crash helmet ). Lady Doc checked my sats and temp, and apparently I'm alive - so she listened to my chest, agreed I'm still wheezing, so despatched me to go back to my car so she could continue the consultation by phone. When she rang me, I was prescribed a course of steroids....so if I get 'roid rage this week - apologies...... and as to my L1 fracture - I was quizzed about any cause - I surmised maybe one of several rolls whilst rallying, or maybe the odd fall I had when running the scrapyard - but as never hospitalised, who knows! So I'm being referred for a bone density scan, to see if I have an issue, and advised to take Calcium and Vit D supplements. She also asked if I smoked - never!, and drank.....ah ...... apparently alcohol can affect your bones, so I guess I'm doomed and definitely falling apart it'll be reet, as we say in this part of the world, there's worse things happen at sea Thanks for good wishes |

I was on SC duties on that weekend at Brands, radio went and theres John "Dont rush your coffee, Iains going out for a lap but doubt if there'll be any problem" . 🙄 I have John to thank for suggesting that, as I had been advised not to race because of my neck being broken 17yrs previously and needed a lot of training doing to get more supportive power in the surrounding muscles. Invite had to come from a CoC before being allowed to drive on said duties Officials licence from the then MSA two days after applying! That was it. So, yes, John was one of the best, and never far from my thoughts either. Happy days indeed. |

My very very good friend on the jack "Paul". Will not help me with 500 cars anymore. Duncan took him up the pit lane at Castle Combe as he was still hanging on to the jack.Duncan should really not be racing 500 cars but he loves it.Wonder full photo , Can i send it over to our leader.
