Clearly more important to give VIPs 2-3 hours of 'hot laps' over the weekend. Real crowd pleasing stuff, I imagine.

WEC thinks having just it's race makes for a great event - it needs so much more than that. This isn't the first time there's hardly any support program, see the event schedule at Spa for the last couple of years for instance.

AsLMS, Super GT, Asian GT, Audi R8 cup, Formula Nippon and lots of other Japanese and SE Asian racing series could have joined. This way, the races will never evolve into bigger events but will stay merely what they are: just another race in the championship.

Shanghai, Bahrain and Interlagos will probably be more of the same.

It's basically the same support package format as F1 uses for their Asian and some other flyaway events, ie some no-one-cares 30 minute race for local Porsche Cup or lower formulae series set as far apart from the world championship sessions as possible. Another vital ingredient of standardizing everything...

Exactly, its a win win situation for both championships making an event of it as even WEC as a brand is new and so any way they can improve it and attract a wider audience should be encouraged

Those series' have a set schedule already. Super GT wont run with them, they do Fuji twice a year and its now just finishing up Thailand. People should stop acting like the wec doesnt want supporting acts. Just because theyre no raceing at Fuji with the wec doesnt mean it has no importance. Shanghai had support races, did that make it a classic? Always something to complain about I guess

Support races don't make an event but they help.

And as for WEC generally, if anyone said 6 years ago that there would be a world championship for sports cars with factory P1 teams from 3 makes and one to arrive next year and a strong GT field no one would believe you so I'm amazed by the progress in that time and I think the ACO don't get enough credit for it.

It's just that the series has so much potential that it would be great if it was realised

Having the AsLMS on the same bill as the WEC is such a no-brainer. Needs sorting out next year. As others have said - everybody wins from it.

Designing a complete fantasy race weekend with timings is one of the more bizarre posts I've seen on here. Good effort!

Feel free to like the series all you want, all I'm saying is that just a 6 hour race on Sunday with only a 'handful' of single seaters and lots of VIP drive arounds will not help establishing a bigger event.

If WEC wants to become more than a 'we're the world championship that people will only know of because the Le Mans 24H is our jewel in the crown while the rest of the races are almost invisible' it has to improve substantially and this is one of the issue to deal with.

Its a fantasy to have a race weekend with 3 major series. Super Formula and Super GT hardly share time as it is now! Its probably off the table to have that take place, as drivers partake in all 3- SGT, SF and WEC. Then the Japanese fans dont get another 2 or 3 weekend to attend a race at Fuji. So by combining all these series into one you get this 'one event a year' that looks big, but limits Fuji's other big racing days. Also limits the fans vacation days. Looking at the scheduling, its already a week after F1, which takes away a lot of attendees. So I will "like this series", theres nothing very wrong with the schedule at Fuji. Instead of picking at little things, use common sense from Fuji and the people's POV.

I sincerely hope there won't be an AsLMS next year - what a waste of everything...

Edit: weekend of 19-20 September has TUSC scheduled a race at CotA, I'm assuming the WEC will be there the same weekend so no place for Fuji (?).
