Exactly! If I had an SUV I would expect it to have huge carrying capacity, not less than a wagon or estate.....

At least (in my eyes) the Porker is not as pointless looking as the beemer X6......

Is this what a crossover is? I actually don't know.

Speaking of which, here's a crossover small SUV thing. Tesla Model Y.

Shares 75% of its parts with the Model 3. And just looks like it's been slightly stretched.

I think the Cayenne is a ĎCoupe SUVí. Still 4 wheel drive and decent towing limit, just with reduced practicality..... Most Ďcrossoversí are just jacked up hatchbacks, with SUV stying influences!

The Model Y will surely take sales away from the Model 3. Same underneath, Ď10% biggerí, but not sure in what direction, a hatch / tailgate (the lack of which limits the 3ís appeal, IMO), and eventually a 6 seat (2-2-2) option. Excellent cd of 0.23, same as the saloon. By the time sales start in these shores Iíll be ready for one- but whether I will be able to afford it is another matter!

They aint cheap here in Aus.... the least expensive available (the 3 is not here for another year apparently) is the 75S with a starting price over 100K Aussie Pesos.... the 90D over double that.

And eventually a twin motor BEV version.

Worth pointing output that the car in the pics is still a concept, and some of the styling add ons such as the arches, wheels, tyres and roof box/lights were added to hint at Ďruggednessí.......

I cannot see, for the life of me, anything sporty in any of the SUVs that are being produced. They are just refined Jeeps.

The person who coined the term "sport utility vehicle" was quite imaginative.

I was thinking there's very little U in then, at least there's some sporty models with lowered chassis and an upgraded engine. Full leather and nothing but seats isn't really utility. It's a van without being called a van, or for the US it's a hatchback/wagon without being called that because apparently wagons aren't cool

I always thought the word "sport" was meant for carrying sport stuff, like bikes and surf boards and stuff. And now I'm sitting thinking about that, it makes even less sense.

I've never put much thought into it, but I do wonder when the term was first coined and what vehicle(s) it was referring to? Now it is pretty much anything not a sedan, coupe, or truck in the US.

In the UK we only started using it in the last decade I think. We always said "jeep" and "4x4", even if it wasn't a Jeep, or four wheel drive. Which I guess is even more wrong.

Thatís what Iíve always thought the definition was. But a large percentage of current ĎSUVís would be hard pressed to carry much stuff! Better of with a decent wagon / estate car / break........

This is what I don't understand about SUV's (and more specifically why people buy them) - they're bigger on the outside but no bigger on the inside. So you get all the disadvantages of a larger car (extra weight, worse handling, braking, acceleration, fuel economy, higher running costs, higher insurance) but none of the benefits. I mean they even make it harder for the dog to get in the boot.

Take something like the Nissan Juke (ignore the awful looks for a minute) - it's bloody tiny inside. The Ford Kuga is just an obese Focus hatchback, the Qashqai is no better (and seems to be selling in huge numbers). I just don't get it. If you don't need lots of space - buy a hatchback, if you need extra space - buy an estate. SUV's don't need to exist - it's a class that sells in huge numbers for no valid reason.
