luckn002 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
BTCC 2017 - Rounds 25, 26, 27 - Silverstone

Almost time for the penultimate round of the championship... any predictions for winners / podiums?

Must be about time for Jake Hill to get on the podium, he went very well around here last year.

Shame for Josh Cook who will miss the first race if the appeal is unsuccessful - ideal track for the MG. Maybe a chance for Taylor-Smith to get back up the front too.

And please, can we not get into another argument about RWD / FWD / Subaru / BOP and enjoy some close racing?

If Cook's appeal fails then will TBL requirements mean that MG have to run a replacement driver? And if they do, then who?

Interesting question. I thought that the teams were only allowed to replace a driver once during the season, and of course Cook has already joined as a replacement...

I don't think they will need (or be allowed) to enter another driver.
The TBL requirements are for them to attend the event with car and driver - it is then the organisers who are excluding them from the race rather than the team failing to meet TBL requirements.

I think he's only banned from the first race, so surely he would allowed to start R2 from the back

Yes, the sporting regulations stipulate that driver(s) are excluded from the next available race, not the whole meeting.
It would be possible for a driver to pick up a penalty like this after race one for instance, at which point they would be excluded from race two. In that case, there is no way you could justify that a team had failed to meet TBL requirements. Otherwise you are effectively writing into the regulations that a driver being excluded from the next race means a team loses it's TBL.

I had assumed he was banned for the entire meeting, but just the first race would make more sense. In which case the TBL is not an issue as they will still be present at the meeting, just not starting every race - no different from a DNS in race 3 due to a mechanical issue.

For clarification, the official BTCC releases stated:

'Round 23:
Josh Cook was officially reprimanded and received two penalty points for an incident involving Mat Jackson, which was his third strike and meant he would start Round 24 from the back of the grid

Round 24:
Josh Cook was fined £500 and received three penalty points for an incident involving Stephen Jelley, which was his fourth strike and constitutes a one race ban. MG Racing RCIB Insurance have appealed the decision, which will be heard on Friday 15 September at Silverstone.'

Sporting regulation 4.4.5 reads:
'4.4.5 Any driver who has received three reprimands (including verbal and/or written warnings and/or any such penalty as may relate to driving standards at the discretion of the BTCC Clerk) will, on receiving the third reprimand be given the additional penalty of starting the next available race from the rear of the grid and a deduction of three points from their Championship tally in the Drivers Championship and, if applicable, the Independent Drivers Championship.
On a fourth reprimand the driver will receive a one-race ban to be taken at the next available race, on the fifth reprimand the driver will start the next available race from the rear of the grid, and on the sixth reprimand the driver will receive a two-race ban to be taken at the next available races. Every reprimand from and including the third reprimand will also receive a deduction of three points from their Championship tally in the Drivers Championship and, if applicable, the Independent Drivers Championship. Drivers must carry the appropriate Championship/Success
Ballast for the race in which they would normally have started prior to the application of any such penalty.'

Given that the appeal is being heard on the 15th - it would be fairly difficult to have a driver in reserve who may not be racing if the appeal is not upheld.

Bit of a shame for Sonic, at least he won't miss any WTCC races as well. I can see Hunter being a temporary replacement

Not possible - the IndyCar finale at Sonoma is the same weekend.

What's Andy Sugden doing nowadays?

PMR would be perfectly entitled to claim force majeure and not field the second car at Silverstone.

It is a medical exclusion that is stopping Chilton from racing so the team may elect to save some money/accident damage and not take 2 cars. Senna is leading the Jack Sears Trophy but neither team or drivers are in line for the major championships.

I don't think that would be the case. Their entry is for every event in the season, and there is nothing wrong with the car preventing them from entering.
There is also provision in the regulations for a substitute driver so no force majeure is stopping them racing.
Finally, given the Gow publicity centred around 'manufacturer' involvement, I'm certain he would be seen to see someone in the car.
The purpose of TBL's included prevention of withdrawal due to cost, so potential costs wouldn't be tolerated as a reason to withdraw.

its not force majeur if the team have 10 days to find a substitute driver!

All the articles said an announcment would be made soon, their latest tweet backs that up:

"We are lucky to have so many great options to replace @TomChilton_ at @SilverstoneUK for @DunlopBTCC we are confident of another superstar"

...so it's safe to say they will be 2 Vauxhalls. Another thought was Bobby Thompson, didn't he test the PMR Cruze a while back?

Expecting a young gun with some budget for one round.

at least that sorted and that good news on the TBL front for Power maxed racing.

now all depends on the Cook appeal to see if we have 31 cars or 32 cars starting race 1
