Honda in the ETCC - are independent Accord's going to be built?

What is the situation?

'Cause supposedly, Honda was supposed to race them in '03 b/c no new Accords were ready in '02? OTOH, I wonder if Honda is trying to squeeze another year out of the Civics from the ETCC? The fact that the Honda is returning to the BTCC with their Civic Type R does not look bode well for an ETCC Accord team? Simultaneously racing 2 different platforms when having one would suffice is a waste of money I think from the manufacturer's perspective.

but the Civic's in the ETCC don't have Honda's factory support.

Last I heard the Civics were carrying on in private hands for 2003 - though I believe the agreement was that Civics had special dispensation for 2002 providing the Honda factory raced Accords in 2003 - which doesn't appear to be happening.

I wonder what is going on at Honda? Have they decided to stay out of the ETCC, especially after Volvo's annoucement? I don't think the latter pulling out of the ETCC is good for PR?

Honda is supporting the BTCC team. The ETCC side will stick with the Civic Type-Rs.

As far as i know the Civic's were out after 2002, no matter whether they were private or factory cars.

It would be Honda Europe who would back an ETC team, Honda Britain fund the BTCC attack i think.

But considering Volvo has withdrawn for '03, I wouldn't be suprised if the ETCC officials would let the Civic Type Rs race a little longer?

JAS is building Accords for an unnamed team in the STCC for 2003, it would make sense that the car will be homologated for the ETCC with ease as the FIA won't put anything in the way of an Accord. JAS does a good job so expect those cars to be quick

This is good news. I hope we see Accord's in both the STCC and the ETCC in 2003. Any potential ETCC teams and drivers?

Can I assume that the ETCC does not require manufacturer permission, unlike the DTM? So what exactly does homologation entail? Crash testing? Or manufacturer blessing? Or just meets every rule setup by the FIA for that particular series?

The two existing Civic's are allowed to run in ETC, but as the waiver for 2002 was only for one year, this waiver is extended to 2003, but only to the existing two civic's, so no new civic's can be entered in the ETC.
Homologation of new cars must be submitted by the factory, respecting all the rules laid out by FIA for the homologation of cars, and only 4 times a year a homologation can be applied for i.e. January, April, July, and October.
