McKay has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Do circuits let you go walkies when no racing?

if you go to a circuit when there is no racing on (say a weekday), could you ask if you could walk around the circuit?
you see it sometimes for TV coverage features liek in F1 where the go to a corner and say "look at the entry blah blah blah..."
that would be cool if you could

u could hold a cam corder when you walk round and then run the video fast and pretend you were driving round!
some circuits you can wander round before the race starts, you will see a lot of bike racers doing it in the morning just to get familar with the layout.

I know I'm making a it a habbit to a hot lap in the morning at some local meetings on a bicycle to help wake up

Ask nicely, and they might give you a tractor so you can cut the grass while you go around

so i could go to brands and say "i'll mow the grass and rake the gravel maybe paint the kerbs if you let me walk around the circuit and look at the corners"
or become a marshall and just walk around when i want

At Mosport, race weekends, people walk the track after all the day's activities (and once the track workers and marshals have left or been driven out). It's an integral part of the weekend to walk it both Friday and Saturday night, canned beverage in hand (no glass, please)...

I think silverstone might actually, I have seen many a runner going round the tracks, I just don't think they do on race days.

McKay-If your interested in marshalling come along to the marshals forum where there are plenty of people who will encourage you and offer advice on how to start. What is your local circuit?

Every circuit I've arrived at the day before a race I've had no problem walking them (with beer in hand) the night before. I certainly found it very helpful as last year was my first race season so all the circuits were brand new to me. The circuits in question being:
  • Snetterton
    Silverstone
    Anglesey
    Donnington
    Castle Combe
    Oulton Park
I saw many other people doing the same, some on push-bikes. I was given the impression that it is a quite acceptable pre-race activity.

i've walked knockhill, and picked out all the racing lines and had an on foot race. that was after testing at about 7pm though.

octagon tend to get a bit arsey if you go on the track during the evening of a race weekend. although having said that i believe there has been some interesting events take place around the snetterton circuit..?

Yep - did it in a bus on a school excursion once - our teacher didn't appreciate 14 year olds trying to bribe the bus driver to let us drive....

I have been positivly encouraged by the Clark of the Course to walk the track & at most Sprint & Hillclimb venues they MANDATE that drivers should walk the course before practice
