kmchow should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It has been rumored that Mitsubishi will specialize in the lower priced, small car development. Chrysler will do mid sized car/truck development while MB will continue with high end. And gradually, MB technology can filter down the brands. If MB continues to struggle with their engines, perhaps they should rebadge them as Hyundais! They own 10% of it!!

It's the source of much debate, nameless. Technically, Porsche is independant, but they have close ties with VAG (Volkswagen-Audi Group), both historically and financially, as they share many principal shareholders. As such, they tend to plan motorsport programs which complement each other, instead of competing directly.

DaimlerChrysler actually owns a 37% stake in Mitsubishi, a sufficient interest to control it's business decisions. They're currently building a joint engine plant in eastern Germany.

Thanks for the clarification Muzza, I guess I was a little sloppy in my wording.

Absolutely correct - prior experience in far less competitive categories means nothing when you get to F1. Toyota and Jaguar are finding this out.

For the record, although Audi changed rallying forever with the QUattro, it was the traction on the loose offered by 4WD that had a significant effect on their performance, not just brute power. I feel it is significant that when other teams tried 4WD and turbos, Audi got their asses well and truly kicked.

They have won at Le Mans against minimal opposition, and thei touring car triumphs have also come in series with very little opposition too.

The best victory in touring cars in terms of mass competition would have to be Alfa Romeo in the 1994 British championship when as rookies they took on and beat works oppositions from Ford, Volvo, Mazda, Peugeot, Nissan, Renault, Honda, BMW....
