Nice job by FI and Grosjean. Would have liked to see Kimi get the pole though. Don't know whether to hope for more rain or not....

Brilliant lap by Lewis.
Ferrari messed around too much, esepecially for Kimi. And Forece India, wow. Nicely they were rewarded for their gamble of trying on slicks. Not in the way they thought, but they had the newer inters late on and put together some decent laps. Brilliant. |

Yes, lucky.
Whenever the rain starts minutes before the end of qualifying, it's luck. Conditions changing every minute - Vettel's previous lap gave him nearly 2 seconds advantage, and then comes Hamilton with additional 3 seconds. What is that but luck? Sure, great drive, but great error-free drives should always be expected&delivered, not treated like special achievement. At least for those few at the top. Completely out of topic - it's great to see that some oldtimers are still regular contributors here!! Cheers guys!!! |

But the same 'luck' applied to every single driver on the grid. I guess that's the thing about 'luck' you're either there in the right place to take advantage of it or you're not. I don't see that it devalues an achievement though. It's just all too easy to throw in 'it was just lucky' if you're that way inclined......

Not luck - good management by the team to get Lewis into the optimum position for the weather. Rather than downplaying Lewis skill in that situation we should be bigging up the teams role in that pole position.

Vettel's petulancy was on display once again during Q3 yesterday. Did anyone hear his tirade towards his own team during his pitstop? The team who are doing their best to help HIM win?? A few F**k's thrown in for good measure too. Truly injudicious behaviour. It's hard not to criticise someone who behaves in this manner.

I think it all fits together. Skill, level of preparedness (that includes your team) and luck. I think many want to frame the Q3 experience yesterday to fit their personal agendas. Hamilton was 1st, so he is great, Vettel was slower by seconds, so he can’t drive in the rain. I don’t buy it. My personal observation is that at the very end of Q3 the track was rapidly improving as you started to see lap times dropping by multiple seconds. Those who ran last had an advantage over those who ran earlier. Some were winners and some losers due to that alone. Things could have gone the other direction. Someone could have spun and crashed right before those quick laps creating a local yellow or even a red flag and we could be saying how brilliant some was to run early and how stupid others were to not put in a better lap earlier. Kimi was at top at one point. In an alternate scenario he could have been the hero yesterday. No matter how good you are, you can’t prevent someone else from crashing at the wrong moment. Luck? Better at reading the weather radar tea level? Who knows? I do think there absolutely is some level of “luck” or if you don’t like that word... “unpredictability” in racing. Especially in conditions like yesterday. Richard |

Clean start up front but Alonso has a major off, as he's punted off the track and it brings out the first SC.

Pants. Alonso and Itiseye out.
Perfect overtake by Vettel. Well done. I was hoping one of the Force Indias could get first or even second, but it would have been a bit of a dive. |

If Hulk was in a FI, he'd have been well up for a bit of a dive judging by that start.

That stop was nicely done by Ferrari/Vettel.

Yes. Good job by Vettel and Ferrari to make their 3s advantage pay despite the undercut.
DRSness going on elsewhere. |

Awful sport, might as well just call it a parade rather than race

Congrats to Vettel, a very measured performance. If he keeps that up he'll win the WDC.

Ah yes, Brundle has to point out what an amazing car the Ferrari is... Rather than just admitting Hamilton got mugged and Vettel is the better driver on the day.

The Ferrari was quick, but I didn't think Brundle took anything away from Vettel's win. What he was doing was talking about motorsport. If commenting on the quality of someone's car always takes away from a victory then we can rule out 98% of all F1 wins. |

Apparently you didn't actually hear what he said. He claimed Hamilton did not win because Ferrari were unbeatable today.
