Should be a good weekend of racing entertainment with the support categories including Formula Ford (WA locals?), Super 2 with a few WA drivers, stadium super trucks and the usually strong WA saloon cars.

Why you run that line djr, mystifies me.

Was a good crowd no doubt but IF Tourism WA is fair dinkum they need to think a bit outside the square.

That a bunch of people with tickets do not show up to a game is of no surprise to anyone over here. Happens most weeks. Empty seats and available tickets are not the same thing. It is a fiction to tell people outside the metropolitan area that you can just front up and watch something at the new stadium.

Sure you may be able to get a last minute ticket for Fremantle vs Gold Coast Giants late in the season when its 19th vs 20th and no one cares but to try and make plans to go to Perth and watch a game is invariably too hard. Scorchers tickets were sold out within hours last year as an example.

As for thinking outside the square there is plenty to do and see over here. Having to suffer through an AFL game would be about the least interesting thing I could imagine doing. And yes I am still bitter they wasted all that money on a useless football ground. Meanwhile over at Australia's shortest race track....

If memory serves (and it is at best, unreliable) you needed to have 1.5 miles of racetrack for it to be up to a certain standard. So 1.5 miles is 2.41 kms the same length as Wanneroo. I think Symmons Planes is the same length.

Not wasted on a Wold Class Stadium at all. Being a football member I love it and money well spent for something that will be utilised for the majority of the year unlike Barbagallo which I will be at on the Friday

Well being someone who has no interest in football I see no value in it. When you add the damage it will do to the WACA to the dollar cost there is more than enough reason to resent another white elephant.

Sport should be something people participate in. So places like Wanneroo should take priority over AFL coffers. They are, after all, used by the community nearly every weekend and many days of the week to participate in sport, not just to watch it.

I should confess I did watch some of the game from the weekend. My missus is an ardent fan of the Westcoast and woke me up with her yelling at the referee. Something about the tall bloke with dreadlocks not interfering on the lineout???

Anyway back to the topic. It should be an interesting weekend. Seeing as balance and tyre deg is so important on the worn out surface it will be interesting if the new Commodores aero balance proves the thing to have or if they just run out of front grip.

Wow, nothing I did not know, WASCC member & still at home when Caversham closed & Barbagallo opened & regularly take in a day at Wanneroo (sorry Alf) & the footy when I return home for business/pleasure.
We lost a round a one year djr ...

Tourism WA is in last year of responsibility for promoting the V8 round as I understand things - the same body played a big part in the decision making at the new stadium & performs the role that Major Events do on the East Coast. It spoke of the role of the new stadium in bringing sports tourists to WA, anything that could help them achieve their aim & works for motorsport in WA should be pursued vigorously.
Soccer, League, Union, Cricket have all taken advantage of the largesse of Tourism WA. Motorsport may need to move more quickly.

Not sure whether you have anything positive to add djr, or are happy at the front of the knockers in the far queue. That one or more sports does not interest you personally is of little relevance in this context unless its motorsport.

Quali format looks to be working well. Makes P1 & P2 count for something, especially when there is such massive tyre deg. Time to roll it out elsewhere?

Just hope there are no incidents transferred from quali to practice with 26 cars on 2.4kms of track.

as we found out last year in an event (although its always been the case) if qualifying is cancelled, pole is set by the fastest times in practice. so att he time it was provisional pole, although obviusly it has changed now

that was good session, plenty of time to get some information and aset of greens available at the end of the day if you need (one set has to be handed back)

Heimgartner, for all his speed in P1 did not qualify for Q2 direct and will have to fight through Q1.

Great lap from Simona ended up fastest Nissan and the only one of them to qualify directly for Q2. All the top 10 P2 runners were quicker than the P1 top 10 so in effect 1-10 in P2 qualify for Q2 direct. (Heimgartner ended P2 21st fastest.)

1-2-3 Ford, Best Holden P4, best Nissan P10.
