Peter Brock to drive in Bob Jane 1000

A story in todays Daily Telegraph has said that Peter Brock will race at this years Bob Jane T-Marts 1000 with Craig Baird. Brock has described the teams current position in the championship (19th) as pathetic and at a test in Winton last week got back behind the wheel to try and help sort out the mechanical problems they have been having with the car. If sponsorship can be found Brock will run 2 cars but at this stage it appears that Jamie Brock is on the outer and will not drive at Bathurst. To me it looks like a way to get some more sponsorship money into the team by having Brock on the track At Bathurst. But I doubt if number TEN will come his way

Wow...

Would it count as a 'comeback', unlike Dick's QLD 500 non-comeback?....

Has this been confirmed anywhere, or has it only been in the paper.

I find it very hard to believe, although stranger things have happened

One wonders what the motivation to drive in an uncompetitve car would be?

It's only a comeback if its in a top running car, and the PR people make a big deal about it, otherwise the media dont care much.

Since he is driving a mediocre car, its little more than another Bathurst 1000 - hardly something to get excited about, still, it'll be good to see Peter Perfect back at the mountain.

How about win number #1

I would be suprised if it happened, surely, if he was definatly going to come back for Bathurst, he would enter QLD rather than go to the mountain cold.

So far we only have a newspaper report. They didn't mention it on RPM also, now i'm not saying that RPM are the gospal, but usually they do anything to talk up the V8 series, and this no doubt would have done so.

petrolheader should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
After watching his interview at5 WINTON[sbs speedweek] on Saturday,I think he is more inclined to do the 24 hour if he is going to do anything.talking about the 24 hour he said he would like to do it in a MONARO.
And if you go to www.bathurst24hr.com PROCAR have a voting panel to see which drivers from HOLDEN get the gig in the 24 hour in their car.
Brock has almost half the vote.

To be more precise in the 24 hour poll. 210 votes have been lodged and BROCK has a staggering 42.4% of the vote.
BROCK for PM I suppose he will get past the post on primaries alone.
What does that say for his popularity 5 years after he has retired?
None of the current crop of HOLDEN drivers comes even close to his following.

I'd be disappointed if he drove. I want him to just leave it at '97 - completely dominating the first part of the race. That should be his last race, not trundling around at the back in a pile of rubbish.

Correct, when you retire, you retire - or you end looking stupid wasting your time at the back like Dick Johnson, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell and Alan Jones amongst others have all done in various categories.
