According to the Jakarta Globe (http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/sports/article/6898.html) the Indonesians are still fully intent on holding A1GP next season. Nov 8 is mentioned, which would mean it would be the next round after Surfers. If NZ is to stay on the calender they would surely need to twin with Australia and take that date...

It also became clear today that A1 won't hit Zandvoort untill 2010. We have the Masters of F3 back at Zandvoort this year, set at June 13/14.

Add DTM, and Zandvoort's noise pollution slots are filled for this year.

If the the cars keep getting impounded, the Taupo round is only going ahead beacuse the NZ sponsor comes up with some money, and even the A1 people down here have said the Taupo round was only just going ahead on a shoestring.....will there even be another round of A1GP ?,it appears A1GP has all but collapsed or is very close too it.
Whats happened?.

There is no justification for the last two posts here. No facts to speak of just internet-based heresay.

Fact. I'm working now on Gauteng. The commentators will be promoting the event this weekend during the broadcasts. I have no reason not to expect that I'll be working on Mexico City, Algarve...etc too.

This thread is getting a bit off topic guys. If you want to comment on A1GP's future prospects by all means start a new thread (and can we please refrain from wild speculation). This thread is about season 2009-2010.

P.S. Actually I have now started a new thread, since there is a news report about a new investor. Please continue the dicussion in the financial security/new investor thread. Thanks.

According to this next season's calender should be known, at least within A1GP, by the end of Feb. That would be a new record for A1GP!

<sarcasm>I reckon it will be september 2009 before it's made public, and march 2010 before the last race that was TBA on that calendar to be cancelled. </sarcasm>

Hmmmm racexpress.com says that Zandvoort will be the final round of the 2009-2010 season (eventhough that is not in the Zandvoort press release about their calender for this year).

I don't know if I can wait that long. How much for a return economy class ticket to Kuala Lumpur again ?

Richard - budget airline Air Asia are starting long haul flights from KL to Europe I believe (but you might need to get to London first to connect), or there is Orient Thai or German airline LTU to Bangkok and then Air Asia to KL...If you go I'll meet you there.

The event name for the Gold Coast race will be released in a couple of weeks, although sponsors are hard to find (as expected in the current economic climate) - http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/...oast-news.html

NZ to soon decide on Taupo or Hampton Downs for next season:

http://tvnz.co.nz/motorsport-news/de...cation-2521041

Interesting that A1GP is due to announce next seasons calender "in about a month". Heard that one before...do you think we can have this season's calender first please?

There is talk that A1GP is planning another street race in Beijing this October. This track will be different from the fiasco in 2006, the new proposed track is around the Olympic park.

Let's hope the manhole covers will stay in their places.

That Olympic Park rumour was around ahead of season 4 as well, but nothing happened - perhaps this time there will be more luck.

On the other hand, next season we will see the debuts of Surfers and Lippo Village - would they debut 3 street tracks in one season?

It will be a very boring track if it is around the Bird's Nest, unless it is a couple of km further north where there is a large park

And with their track record, surely they couldn't carry out 3 new street tracks in a season? .

A1GP website lists Surfers Paridise for October but nothing yet about Zandvoort in September.

When interviewed on the grid at Brands Hatch Jeroen Bleekemolen said something like "let's hope we get to race at Zandvoort again soon", not very convincing.

A1 would be mental not to race at Zandvoort... Big crowds and spectacular races guaranteed. Yes, people from the TT circuit at Assen were at Brands Hatch too, but please don't go there. As brilliant and modern as Assen is, it does suffer from Magny-Coursitis.. it's too far away from the airports/ hotels/ population.

Great way of putting it. Zandvoort is one of the events of the season (along with Kyalami I think), surely assuming there is a season five then there should be a Zandvoort round.

It looks we'll have to wait a while for the new calender...... 1st of August. I guess they need to find funds to fly people everywhere to negotiate first. (tongue back in cheek now)

Hmm...two months ago it was said that it would be announced in about a month. The date of the calender release seems to change all of the time, why would they be sure they can release it on August 1 this far out?

Apparently 12 rounds next season, with 8 paying.

Sauce: http://www.britsonpole.com/a1gp-on-a...aster-post8908 (also alluded to in two other threads)

Just thinking out loud then (all speculation, I really have no idea):

1. Zandvoort or Assen (paying - whichever willing to pay more)
2. Mugello (no paying, keeps Ferrari happy)
3. Surfers Paradise (paying - Queensland Govt)
4. Hampton downs (I hope not paying, A1GP owe's it to Colin Giltrap!)
5. Indonesia (paying - Indonesian Govt or Lippo Village developer)
6. Sepang (paying - Malaysian Govt)
7. Zhuhai (paying - Chinese Govt)
8. Kyalami (paying?)
9. Mexico (paying but not enough to break even - Mexican Dept of Tourism)
10. Brazil (must be paying, otherwise I've only got 7. This one will get cancelled anyway)
11. Algarve (not paying, part of deal for tax break on new factory)
12. Brands Hatch (not paying)

Thoughts?

May as well replace Brazil with a 2nd race at China, seeing as according to Autosport, A1 have signed a deal with the Chinese gvmt. to hold 2 rounds a season, like seasons 2-3.

Although I think Mugello may also be replaced -I only see 3 European rounds as (also from Autosport) they apparently plan to start the season in Asia-Pacific, then go to Africa, then Americas, then Europe.

Zandvoort is planned for April/May 2010 apparently.
