Settle a BTCC Bet? VXR 3rd Seat - How Much???
Can anyone help settle a bet???
I have a bet with a mate, he reckons the 3rd seat at VXR (i.e. Mr Smith) was up for grabs for about £150k. My estimate is closer to £300k. I don't expect an exact figure, but who's closer??? Thanks, Garrett P.S. If any respondents don't want to quote figures here, then please PM me. |

I wouldn't say it was £150k, that seems far too cheap for a factory VXR drive.
Conservative guess, between £225 - £250k - but just a guess mind! |

I believe that the price range for the seat depended on who was asking. I would strongly suggest that Mr Smith has put down not less than £250k, probably £300k

Luke Hines is reported to have paid VXR more than £200k in 2003, so they are not going to have dropped the price.
£300k sounds realistic - I have heard someone mention £400k, but that sounds excessive. |

I have heard that there are teams out there who are asking £400k for a season in BTCC

Isn't it amazing that 25 guys can get budgets in excess of that in order to race British F3 which has a ****e TV package and one man and his dog attending race meetings yet the BTCC can just about scrape 12 cars despite its status and TV deal - its a joke and somethings wrong. I put this to Mr Gow and he said 10 if those were National drivers and he's right but a National budget is still 200-250k for a season at the very least - pretty much equal to a factory VX drive if what you say is right!

Could the reason that someone will pay £250k for an F3 drive be because, however slim the chance, their goal is F1? and they could end up being paid to drive in the US or Japan? Whereas, what are your expectancy in the BTCC? Pay to drive in the WTCC? There is less likelyhood of becoming a millionaire from BTCC than there is in single-seaters. A few years ago maybe, but now days you are lucky to earn a living.
Investors are prepared to stump up half a million to get a talented driver close to F1, because the pay back is enormous. The guys of backed Jenson invested a few hundred k. They were paid back with 40% of his earning for the first 3 years in F1. Willi Weber, the Schumis manager takes about 30% of what they earn. |

oh and BTW Smith would have paid very close to (if not) £300k. That's how much VXR were asking for.
