I have been a supporter of Liberty all along but this has shown that blind pursuit of the $ trumps any thoughts of empathy to the people involved directly and to the population of the host countries is not on their radar at all. Given long enough this could break F1 but that idea is fairly remote at this stage. |

Many governments are offering support to help tide over businesses that may have reduced income in this period.
An F1 team is an unusual case and non essential for the world, but how many people work for Williams? 700 directly? And indirectly through suppliers? Although I wasn't aware Williams were on, or close to, the brink. |

McLaren have announced that in addition to the one confirmed positive case, a further 14 crew members are in self isolation and that no team member returning to the UK will be able to visit the factory for two weeks. I suspect that we are going to go through this all again next week, unless the FIA and FOM learn from this.

I know Bahrain have already stated that the race would not be run in front of live spectators but I wonder if teams will refuse to travel to Abu Dhabi.

It is also being said that Mercedes wrote to the FIA/FOM saying they were also withdrawing from the event in consideration of the safety of their team and the general public. The official statement from the GP office of the race not going ahead apparently came shortly after that letter was received. |

f1 teams may not make it out
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-...staff/12052124 Earlier, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said if the event had gone ahead, no spectators would have been allowed due to public health concerns. Patrons had been lining up at the gates, which were due to open at 8:45am AEDT. Last night, McLaren Racing withdrew from the event after one of its team members tested positive to the virus. Organisers had expected about 300,000 people to attend the event at Albert Park over the four days. Leading infection control expert says Australia must cancel more events |

Not safe to visit the factory but safe to travel back to the UK? Are they being sent back in sealed plastic bags ? This is what has annoyed me. The bullshit about the fans safety being paramount . |

The FIA ultimately owns the World Championship, so they should take the lead but of course they sold the rights to hold F1 to liberty who in turn have sold FIA F1 races individually to promoters and circuits - can you imagine the refund policy in that entails...?

We might as well cancel the rest of the season.

Ross Brawn reckons they did a 'good job' in Melbourne, I guess we don't want to be around when they do a bad one....

Reading reports online that Bahrain and Vietnam will be cancelled, so the earliest the season will start is the Dutch Grand Prix at the start of May.

I would like to applaud Kimi & Sebastian for refusing to race and it was their leaving the country that most probably set the cancellation/postponement in motion as the promoters would have huge problems explaining why they were not racing. I do think the promoters took the mickey trying to lobby the govt to allow the race to go ahead and I would love to see a full & truthful explanation but that is fairy tale stuff and will never happen.
Liberty Media are in real trouble now financially with a lot of other sports they cover not going ahead and it will be very interesting to see what comes out of the washing machine when life returns to normal. |

To be fair the situation wasn’t as bad when they set off for the GP, but it seems to be have got worse now. It looked like they would get away with it, but they got caught out
Anyway it’s not looking good if we have to wait till Baku for the season to start. Hope things improve way before then |
