FCYs? There were two caution periods and maybe teams thought they could stay out longer, as they wouldn't have been at racing speed and therefore less tyre degredation?

There have been blisters and vibrations with tyres before and the situation has been managed by the drivers. At least we didn't have a Mansell moment at Adelaide.

They wouldn't have stopped on that lap if it wasn't for the SC. We've seen it before at Silverstone. It is oft referred to. It is a reasonable hypothesis at this point.

Dunno. Although it is obviously known the tyres don't last forever.

And that is probably the difference between some who brand them as absolute junk and some who don't.

Even if they did say they could last long enough, it is advisory and there were clear signs they might not. Massive bistering. Then failures on others.

Still they are racers.

Without competition it is hard to judge. You could see a situation that with competition who can never have supreme performance and never fail as one will always sacrfice the later more to get super-supreme performance.

The predicted pit stop strategy as shown during the formation lap had:

1 stop medium - hard: lap 17-26
1 stop soft - hard: lap 14-23

Hamilton, Bottas and Sainz all stopped on lap 14, so early in the window but IN the windows nevertheless.

If that is based on Pirelli data, then the tires shouldn't just fail on lap 50 (Bottas), 51 (Sainz) and 52 (Hamilton)

Isn't it great that things might not develop exactly as they should in the race?

They had a pretty good indication that they were on the way out...

I do hate that tyre degredation graphic. Hamilton has 10% tyre left. I don't know what AWS is doing there.

But you know about F1. It is clear they are different tyres built for different reasons.

Again we just want things to be so consistent that they are maximum dull?

Yet again teams pushing the limits in terms of tyre wear, I would be looking at settings etc right now to see if they are pushing camber, pressures etc, it has been known before.

Next weeks forecast is 10 degrees warmer, so sifter tyres will be hopeless.

The absolute genius thing about all of this is that there will be a different compound selection for the 2nd half of this back to back at Silverstone.

For me this season has been so massively entertaining on so many levels.

And when you see who owns which brands, the choice is even more limited.

Michelin - France

Worlds number one tyre manufacturer. Own the brands Michelin, BF Goodrich, Kleber, Uniroyal* and Riken.

Bridgestone - Japan

One of the original big three. Own the brands Bridgestone, Firestone, Daytona and Europa.

Goodyear Dunlop - USA

Goodyear recently merged with Dunlop to form one of the largest tyre manufacturers in the world. Own the brands Dunlop, Goodyear, Fulda, Falken and Kelly.

Yokohama - Japanese

A brand in themselves, Yokohama claim to be the 7th biggest manufacturer in the world.

Pirelli - Italy

Pirelli claim to be the 5th largest tyre manufacturer in the world. Most of it's retail is through the Pirelli brand but have more recently released the Ceat and Courier brands.

Cooper Tyre - USA

Cooper recently bought the Avon brand. They now own Cooper, Avon and Mastercraft.

Continental - Germany

Owns Continental, Uniroyal*, General Tyre, Gislaved and Semperit.

Toyo - Japan

Toyo are one of the newer budget performance tyres to market. Formed many partnerships around the globe.

Kumho - Korea

Kumho is also a budget road tyre with a strong sporting range.

Apollo - India

Apollo now own Vredestein.

* To add to confusion Uniroyal is Continental owned in Europe and Michelin owned in USA

Edit: Hankook is a S Korean tyre manufacturer, and seems to be missing from the above list.

ascarracinguk has already discredited Goodyear, Michelin and Dunlop. I haven't heard of Apollo, Kumho or Toyo. As for the others, what's their racing pedigree like?

I don't think Bridgestone or Goodyear would even want to come back after the treatments F1/FIA gave them. Kinda like how Pirelli is treated now.

Aren’t Pirelli doing exactly what the FIA wanted? When we had tyres In the mid 2000s everyone complained they were too hard and didn’t degrade, the FIA didn’t want that with current gen tyres
