Don Panoz has once again brilliantly come up with a great plan for competitors in the ALMS who are planning to go to the seasons final race at Adelaide.


Don Panoz, founder and promoter of the American Le Mans Series, has announced to teams at Mosport this weekend exciting and generous freight and travel subsidies for Adelaide¹s Race of a Thousand Years on 31st December.

The comprehensive package presented to competitors is aimed at ensuring that the cost of competing in Adelaide is no more than in other rounds of the Series, and in addition offers team members a unique opportunity to enjoy a subsidised vacation ŒDown Under¹ with their families.

Dr Panoz and the organisers of the finale to the 2000 Le Mans Series of races have negotiated a attractive deal with Australia¹s national airline Qantas, who have become an event sponsor.

Fares on offer to teams are considerably lower than the lowest normal wholesale price at this time of year.

To assist the teams in their set up and pre-race preparations, an accommodation package has also been offered starting the week before Christmas.

Free accommodation for 4 members of each team will be available for the period of 20th December to 3rd January 2001.

As this covers the holiday period, accommodation for wives or partners is also free. All other accommodation is available at considerably reduced rates, the balance being covered by the organisers.

A attractive freight subsidy has been organised for private teams regularly competing in the series.

This is US$15,000 per car and is based on the teams using a 40ft shipping container. If teams were to ship their freight directly after the penultimate round of the Series in Las Vegas, the approximate cost for a round trip from Long Beach to Las Vegas would be US$10,500.

The balance of the subsidy is therefore available for teams¹ own use and could be utilised for airfreight of parts or the cars themselves.

"This is a fabulous opportunity for people to not only finish the Series in style but also enjoy the biggest party they¹ll attend for a thousand years," Panoz said.

"I hope that the packages we¹ve put together will give the teams the incentive they need to see in the real Millenium properly."
