I’ve always said the questions are easy when you know the answers, but you are right, there is a level of general ignorance that is frightening sometimes !
Now, who can name the four rally drivers, one each from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales that competed in the British Rally Championship in VW sponsored Golf GTIs in the late 80s ? No peeking on the Internet there ... |

One for that Ruston fellow: The latest Classic and Sportscar mag has a piece about a company called IS Polson, who specialise in preserving pre war Talbots. Apparently Ian Polson was "hooked on vintage cars after seeing Genevieve and reading Tim Birkin's Full Throttle".

So I had to cheat a bit & look up some details . He was in the Fords up until 1990 , then he got a works supported drive in a VW G60 in 90 & 91 until the factory pulled out . As far as I can tell , his was the only works supported car running in the UK . |

Had a look up on them . Seems they did several British Championship rallies in 87 & 88 . Not all of them on each event . So that was a question I did not know the answer to . |

Just had a phone call from a "gentleman" claiming he was from BT saying "you are about to be cut off because of illegal usage, please press one for more information" maybe I should have given him my Lagos bank account number ! Funnily enough my internet is still working at the moment but I shall worry about it for the rest of the day.

Yes it has even made it down under.... I had a series of calls which I declined to act on, finally a call ended with me telling / asking the question "which part of the phrase F*** Off do you not understand." They immediately hung up and have never called back.
....im sure they will at some stage. |

I suppose someone somewhere must fall for these blatant scams.....
I tend not to bother answering any numbers I don't recognise, or any number withheld or "private number" calls, but can get caught out by the tendency for various official bodies such as doctors or hospitals to withhold their numbers! |

My stepdaughter received an email from 'HM Courts and Tribunal Services' yesterday claiming she had violated some restriction at 16-24 hrs on 26th September, 2020, and had a penalty to pay by a certain date or it would be doubled. It did look very convincing but it failed to state where such violation occurred, so she's treating it as a scam.
They do seem to be more professional looking these days. I'm always getting spam calls from 'Amazon' telling me my Amazon Prime subscription is about to expire and to press 1 to renew. Funny, but I don't recall ever having Amazon Prime. |

These scam calls must be computer generated as my home phone has been exdirect for 30 years. Some people do fall for it unfortunately with dire consequences ! I have been vey rude on the phone in the past and still am but I have sometimes been wrong ! The main problem with all these scams is that I don't trust hardly anything on my phones or computers as there are some clever people out there. One of my family is a computer programmer for one of the biggest pension firms in the country and has shown me just how easy it is to break into things

Ex-directory makes not a jot of difference. Unfortunately. Telling them to eff off, or getting them into circles with language, or goading them by pretending to not know what they're on about... can make them go away We had someone war dial the office range at work a while back. Bear in mind this was an office of 25 or so IT systems engineers, network specialists and comms people, when someone eventually answered we had a lot of fun wasting the chap's time at the other end. It was only when someone laughed out loud that they cut the call |

Once I said "can you hang on for a few seconds I'll put you on hold while I go and get my bank details" I then played The Ace Of Spades by Motorhead at full volume for a while. Obviously it wasn't his taste in music as it took me a bit of time to find all the details that he wanted as he hung up I also got an email today saying the same thing as this mornings phone call regarding my BT account and asking me to click onto a link, I checked the email address that certainly wasn't BT and sent the email to the BT phishing site and then changed passwords for various things.
