"Lewis Hamilton- Billion Dollar Man" documentary on BBC3 now
Until 8pm.
Has some old footage. Move to Armchair Enthusiast later if you like. I just thought I'd put it here so people could notice the thread whilst it's still on. |

I saw it a few weeks back and it was dreadful. The presenter hits depths of ineptitude that not even James Allen could reach. Born Racer has a point though - He certainly had more of an accent in his youth, even when he was in Formula Renault as recently as 2003.

Yes, the general show was awful. The problem was the people in the documentary had no knowledge really. Didn't they get a DJ explaining Lewis' racing techniques? Awful. The presenter did not know what racing was.
The old footage lifted it to OK status. |

Yeah, that bit was just on then. My housemate came and asked if I was watching anything in particular. She said "oh I don't mind if you are. I was just gonna have a look and see what's on."
I decided I didn't mind if she did. I've been hogging the TV all afternoon, and it was always going to be a cheesy documentary. Looks like I've seen most the old footage anyway. |

That show was on weeks if not months ago, i watched 2 minutes of it midway through the show. I found the presenter (as appears to be standard in motor racing coverage these days) utterly devoid of any subject knowledge. Also any documentary with Colin Murray in it is bound to be utter toss, especially as he gives 'technical' insight. Laughable.

It was clearly not a programme aimed at motor sport enthusiasts, but I watched it expecting that.

Lewis Hamilton "Billion Dollar man"
Perhaps you'll find the one coming out soon on Davidson a bit more down to earth? It follows his rookie year at the other end of the grid with some of his past career, and even ole Rennen makes an appearance too...perhaps it should be titled "Billion penny Ant" ?

I watched it the first time it was on, a very odd show - I assumed by the title that it would be about how much he could make out of F1, with sponsorship etc...was a bit rubbish though.
Most asmusing parts were the DJ explaining passing manouvers and the interview with his driving instructor! |

I think a lot of the old karting footage and interviews are on there already.

I have to say this was incredibly lame. I was very disapointed that because Lewis is halfcast, black, whatever the BBC had to feel they had to be political correct and have 80% of the people interviewed on there as black people. No one has a problem or even looks at lewis differently only the BBC who made a big meal out of it, no one cares at all! Plus many people didn't have any knowlege of motorsport. It was a horrible put together BBC program. The only plus was that it had some good old footage. Other than that you had a lot of people not knowing what they were talking about. I mean interview the road driving instructure and then colin murray the radio 1 dj explaining how an overtaking move works with toy cars, oh my god, and trying to show us how impressive Lewis is I couldn't bare to watch! Overall rating, extremely poor hideos coverage. Better not shown tbh!

It wasn't the colour thing that grated with me so much as the class thing. The idea that Lewis is "a working class boy done good".
If I remember correctly, his father runs a financial consultancy. And I presume his father funded a five figure a year junior karting career until the sponsorship came in. Working class my arse. |
