Send me your queries, and all the info on motorsport's most awaited failures in a thread i'm calling FLOP-STARS A spoof of Popstars but who gives a s**t |

WANHER, Shannon sponsored Forti as from France '96, but the money never materialised and the team was forced to close down

I'm not totally sure that the original question is being answered here. Wasn't it teams which extremely hyped themselves beforehand and then crashed badly, rather than any team which was rubbish? I suppose it also depends on what you define as overhyping - in the case of Life it could be stating that youd would complete a lap!

1987 World Touring Car Championship!
Shame, because it was the only time when Australia had Group A, and thus could compete internationally. |

I have just seen in Auto Hebdo today, there was
also 15 days about it, but actually it's more intentions but if it start on july 2002, will they stop the championship on 31/12/03 AS IRL did the first year. They normally decide to launch it in september ? How about the FOCA championship in 81 ? |

BAR (We'll be giving McLaren and Ferrari a run for their money' )
Jaguar (Should have done more) BRM (Flashes of brilliance, otherwise rubbish) Life (Revolutionary W12 engine, team designed to showcase motor) Lola (Never did anything, despite Beatrice sponsorship in the 1980's) Many more... |

I think we've covered most of them but this year it has to be Montoya.
Invincible. I hope you won't take this the wrong way but I have a bit of a problem with F1Rejects. I'm not sure if it's the title or the intent. I wouldn't mind hearing from you what you think the intent of the site is. I've seen some things there which make me a little er, incomfortable. By all means please keep posting and sharing in our interest in history. Also I might add, your threads (like this one) are refreshing. |

All very good points R but you have to agree that he's not the only one to do those things and as such he's also failed to achieve anything like his pre season hype suggested. So far that is.

OK, this is derailing the topic, but just a quick reply.
To a certain extent, he has disappointed. Like in Monaco, Canada and Hungary for example. At several other races, he has been brilliant. Add to that the fact that Ralf has been better than expected, and you get the picture. Also remember that the driver himself is only part of what it takes to succeed. Let's just imagine that two - only two - situations had been different this year: Let's imagine that two occurrences that happened to Montoya - and had nothing to do with the driver - had happened to Ralf instead in similar situations: 1. Montoya's blown engine in Germany - let's imagine that happened to Ralf in Canada instead. 2. Montoya being hit by Verstappen from behind in Brazil - let's imagine that had happened to Ralf at Imola instead. Just these two occurrences being different - and instead of Ralf winning three races and Montoya none, Montoya would have won two and Ralf none. Instead of Ralf having 44 points and Montoya 15, Montoya would have had 35 and Ralf 20. I know this is of course just hypothetical, but it still goes to show that the driver is only part of the equation, that's my point by making this hypothetical example, and you have to look behind the results. It also shows that Montoya is doing more than OK for a rookie, and that with half the luck you would expect should have won two races. I tried to keep this as short as possible, and once again, pardon the derailing of the topic. If Peter or anyone else gives a reply that I feel needs responding, I will not respond to it via this topic, but rather through a PM, as this has nothing to do with Historic Racing or Racing History. |
