Hi Steve and welcome to ten-tenths. I have just read this in the Marshals Forum and was about to suggest you post it elsewhere, and hey presto, here you are!!!

I wish you every success in getting a trainee for your excellent race series.

scrutineer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
As I have put this in the marshals section i thought i should put it here as well

I am sure that the MSA wont approve of this. As for full training will be given in 1 event it takes almost 2 years to become a scrutineer and 3-4 years to become a national B.
This is not the place to be asking for volunteers you should be using official and trained people. This is peoples lives that you are talking about. If things are missed then people can get hurt.

Scrutineer, I think you've misunderstood Steve's request. The Mini 7 Racing Club is looking for a volunteer to "shadow" the current fully trained and qualified eligibility scrutineer (who was originally recruited himself in a similar way) in the hope that someone will be found with the commitment to undergo the full training. He certainly wasn't referring to a one-off event.

I'm sure that, as with any other pool of volunteers, new blood has to be sourced from somewhere - the Mini 7 Racing Club has already contributed one qualified scrutineer and is hoping to find another.

Of course, if any existing scrutineer is keen enough on Mini racing to be interested in this position, I'm sure Owen Hall would be delighted to hear from him!

Yes but scrutineers have to apply throught the MSA to become a trainee and need to attend a large number of different events from race, sprint and even drag racing to become qualified. I know Owen as I have worked with him a number of times and as far as I know he is not a volunteer but paid for by the club.
I know all series have to get in new blood but there are ways of doing this and i dont think this is the way to do it

Try telling that to his current assistant.

etc etc, but loves Mini Racing, paid for by
the club ??? where on earth did you get that
from?

Personally I can't think of a better way of 'recruiting' a trainee. It's only by dipping a toe in the water like this that someone would find out whether they want to bother taking the training, which sound like quite a long affair.

Good luck in your quest, Steve.

If you are a racer then you will have a copy of the blue book look on page 296 middle section you will see Mr halls name showing he is a fully trained scrutineer and is also a qualified eligibility scrutineer.
Paid for by the club. if not will be paid for by someone (check the blue book again). As for asking someone here to become a trainee for this post is stupid. You first need to start of with saftey scrutineering this should take around 1-2 years then you can start looking at going into eligability. You should also point out you need to have a good engineering back ground as it can get technical when writing up reports.
If people here are looking to become scrutineers contact the MSA they are the people who sort it all out and can point you in the right direction

Assistant

Well it seems my posting has worked to a certain
extent, have already had replys from existing
'Trainees' willing to offer help, and who also
know Owen, thanks to all offering support and
encouragement.
