Nurburgring 24
Is this race considered a pro race or does it fall under as a club race?

I don´t think that Schnitzer BMW, ABT-DTM AUDI TT, OPEL Works DTM Astra and Porsche works driver in a Manthey 996 Biturbo will start at a club race ;-)

I was wondering because the Nurbrgring has a 2km long strait and not much in terms of FIA approval.(ie,runoff, graveltraps etc)

Is it not a championship with professionals and amateurs?
On this forum we are talking mostly about Fia GT, ALMS, British Gt or even Belcar but this Langstreckenmeisterschaft (I love that German language ) is also a high quality championship. Project LeMans welcome on this forum! |

Well, every race starts with 180 cars!!!!!!! It is on my to-do list for this year. Some friends from depaddock.net went this year for the first time and they are caught by de "Ring-fever". The first time it is non-clash with a belgium race weekend I'm off to the Ring

It's a mixed GT/touring car affair. Almost everything can run. 2003 will see the return of the turbocharged Porsches; they, and the works-M3 GTR, vs. the DTM-based Opel & Audi TT-R will be the "main attraction". Biela will drive - guess what - an Audi. The Abt team will enter two of those with works support. Haven't heard about McCarthy and Salo though. series website: www.vln.de 24hrs website: www.24h-rennen.de (the 24 is not a part of the Championship). |

Mixed it may be, but be careful if you win!
Caterhams have been banned for being to fast, afer winning last years race (class) by a handsome margin and finnishing 11th overall this year race won't be seeing any of these little wonders. Maybe BMW, Audi et al are scared of the competion?. |

Not just Caterhams - Donkervoorts and Westfields too - in fact, all cars with open wheels (street-legal or not) have been banned. Also to prevent anyone from using this as a loophole to get some fancy light-weight track day special into the race. And I can see why. The speed differential is getting bigger every year.
Say you are in a Porsche 996, on a fast lap, in traffic; nudging a VW Golf out of the way is one thing; for a Caterham with its unprotected suspension (and its largely unprotected driver), it could turn into disaster. The organisers are trying to raise the level of protection for the drivers of the smaller, slower cars (because that's where the accidents happen, not at the head of the field); the fans aren't happy about this at all, but I think everyone is in agreement that there is no need asking for trouble. |

Hey, don't forget Boris Said and Hans Stuck teamming up in a BMW M3. The Nurburgring 24 hours race expands to a 17 mile road course and the Dodge Viper will defend its crown this year.

Viper hasn´t chance of victory this year (I think) with his new fuel tank. Manthey is the one to bet.

I wouldn't bet against BMW. Stuck/Said/Nielsen and Muller/Muller/Hurtgen is a damn' good line-up. And we know the car is very, very fast. Can it last 24 hours? By now, probably.

Check www.vln.de for info. There are some good cars in it. You'd ve surprised how inexpensive a ride in a Clio is for that race. But, first you have to do the school, which I will be doing in mid-May & do another race at the Nordschliefe before they'll let you run the 24 hours. Drumbreck already ran one of the race in preperation for the 24.....
