They ran outside the rules to stress their cooling system. They have not had any hot testing over the winter.

So, it was the hybrid system cooling test, I would guess they were keeping the fuel flow at the EOT limit.
But on second thought, using more fuel would actually stress the hybrid system more, because of higher top speed before the braking = more recuperating energy to take. So it was probably both: fuel use + hybrid power. |

That was a nice lap, but also well within the car and driver's limit.
I enjoyed watching, thanks. |

This might come down to how much pace Toyota lose in race set up vs Rebellion. Rebellion were fastest in FP3 and I'd expect that Toyota might lose easily over 3-4 seconds in race trim with lift and coast and not being able to crank up either the hybrid system or their engine with the three lap average.

After this first round of the super season and the compulsory Alonso's win, we can expect a awful internal ambience between the two crews.

I agree and not so sure that the #8 crew is so happy about their new member.
Not mentioning Davidson at all. And altough It is almost certainly impossible with Toyotas record at LM, in a hypothetical close 1,2 situation the Team would have a problem... when the usually faster #7 was leading. But It will not happen, not with Toyota at LM. |

Really this is the only way Fred is going to win this season to be fair. And Davidson can always try other racing while waiting

It's life. Teams and personnel change. Let's face it, if any of us was running Toyota, we'd want our high profile driver to win. What the teammates (and ex-teammates) think about it really doesn't matter all that much. They're contracted drivers, driving for a team, not themselves. It's not exactly a new concept....

1) Team orders happen all the time in sportscars, every single race
2) They are hired employees of massive organization, not friends or there for charity, the company doesn't "owe" them anything (Davidson) 3) Things are done for the good of the team. This is a team/car sport, not selfish driver oriented like NASCAR or to extent F1 and MotoGP. Alright admittedly this case it was done to artificially help a specific driver, but that's only because #7 winning would've been boring and nothing to write home about in PR sense (they even hinted of this in one of the interviews earlier that normal Toyota win is to be 'expected). #8 winning made the headlines. So it's for the common good of the team, not as much for the driver... 4) It's now been 'done', the first PR win for the Alonso, they can now relax a bit about in in the next sprint races because it's not going to have as big PR impact anymore 5) At LM none of this will matter as they don't have the luxury of flexibility there, and Toyota winning the race >>>>>>>>>in any capacity whatsoever>>>>>>>>> is most important Last edited by Deleted; 6 May 2018 at 11:13. |

Nevermind the clickbait headline, but there was an agreement before the race that the lead car at the last pitstop would be the one ahead at the finish. They didn't want to run a risk of racing the two at the end of the race. Securing a 1-2 is above any type of intra-team battle for the crowd. The #7 had a longer stop because it changed a nose.
I'm sure that won't stop the conspirators from saying it was fixed for Alonso. But I can't fathom they wanted to sabotage the #7 from the get go and have it start a lap behind. There was no guarantee it would even get it's lap back, let alone finish 2nd. |

They did the same last year as well, car ahead on final stint gets the win.

I got to give credit to Alonso. Not the fastest but the average laptimes are very good. This is only his second or third enurance race and no problems with traffic so far also. Looks good.

Compared to some other Endurance rookies then it isn't good enough. Tom Kristensen won Le Mans (his first Endurance) and set new lap record in the same race

Oh I didn't know.
But if Alonso wins in a Toyota It will be a far bigger achievement |

Lots of people on social media getting wound up over the team orders. It's a fairly standard thing in most racing when one team is dominant and is very common in the first couple of races when the cars are still unknown to some extent.
I bet there wouldn't be so much whining if Alonso wasn't involved. |

Some people need to use social media better. At the end of the day why does anyone care what Toyota do? Just concentrate on F1 if that's the case
