Prost

The Telegraph today says Alain has bought a fleet of Audi's to drive (not just manage) at Le Mans - has this already been posted ? Why does he need six of them ?

I doubt that he would need 6, in fact i doubt that 6 remain for sale.
I will belive this when it happens.

No news about this on Reuters either. Sounds a little far fetched to me, but you never know huh!

I hope he does start driving in the sports cars. I adore Prost and I want to meet him!

But I'd be surprised if he had bought more than 2.

Just for fun

Just for fun... let's imagine Alesi in a deep blue private Audi next year... just for fun...

Ayse, what do you think ? I know you're not an Audi fan, but in some private ones, could we have a nice match (oh well, three Bentleys, and hope for Dallara-Judd coming back... mmmmm.... not bad, what do you think ?)

Alain Prost is too smart to gamble with his own money. You can bet he's got plenty stashed away somewhere.

I love the idea of Jean Alesi and Prost driving a French Blue Audi at Le Mans next year.

In fact, why not add Mario Andretti to that crew and give all the old boys one last hurrah? What a story that would make!

It's too much for the same squad... The friendship between Alesi and Prost is not so big because last year troubles. Don't forget Alesi is a Mercedes driver, Haug will not alow him do LeMans with an Audi. Political decisions, you understand...

I don't understand why he wants to buy 6 R8?? 3 was enough....

After being in a French taxi I really do not think Prost is fast enough

The last French Blue car to win was Matra in 1974, although a Gulf car won in 75. I cannot see it happening though, surely Prost would want a French engined car, so VW are going to have to rebadge it.

If it does come off then 2003 will be a classic year with BRG Bentley, USA Red Panoz, French Blue Audi and Marenello Red Ferrari. Any more ?

In the very unlikley event that Prost does get 6 Audis, he will need at least 18 drivers. maybe one car will be driven by ex f1 Champs Mr Mansell and Damon Hill in the same car as A Prost.
More likly he may run one possibly 2 in collabration with someelse, Bobby Rahal springs to mind, I think the two are old friends.
But as SL says it's less than a year away now and already shaping up to be a good one.

Mario has a sign already made "Will Drive An Audi For Anybody!"

I really do think Alesi would be wonderful in a Le Mans car. Would Jan Lammers give him a drive do you think? Would he mind Racing for Holland?

Prost bought six cars because he will sell 3 or 4. To Buy 6 Audi could be a good business for him.

If there is profit to be made then I am sure Audi will make it. There would be no need to sell six to one person when the queue is already quite long.

But Alesi has already said in an interview that he wouldn't want to go back to le mans full stop. Even so, i can't see Prost coming back - i don't think he's got that much dosh on him, and i think the repercussions of the F1 team saga are still fresh in most minds.

Well, as Fab has hinted, I'm not an Audi fan - they've begun to make Le Mans as interesting as F1 at the moment - so I don't particularly want to see Alain Prost turn up mob-handed with more Audi's than even Joest could manage!

Having said this, I would like to see Alain at Le Mans!

Dailysportscar.com are reporting that the following teams could be running Audi's next year:-

one Prost Audi at Le Mans?
two Rahal Audis at Le Mans and in the ALMS?
one Champion Audi in the ALMS
one Stefan Johansson Audi at Le Mans and in the ALMS?
one Joest Audi at Le Mans?
one Audi UK Audi at Le Mans?

Of cause this is only a rummor, but who know what will happen.....

I don't think there's much doubt that we will see Audis at Le Mans in 2003, it's just a case of how many?

I can't see Alain putting together a team to run just one? And if he wants more than one entry, sure as eggs is eggs, the ACO will give him what he wants, I'll wager!

i understand ayses views re: the audis...although maybe they'd be seen in a better light if there were half a dozen of them actually out racing one another?
