V8 Supercars 3

I've just been playing a demo of V8 Supercars 3 on the PS2. Not sure if the console demo is available publicly - I got sent a copy by the distributors.

It's very impressive. Pretty outstanding, actually. Certainly the best racing game I've seen.

It's much more of a simulator for the hardcore fans rather than an arcade romp for kiddies (which the first versions were). You get much more control over the car set-up, the flags and regulations are much more realistic (proper yellow flag periods where you have to stay in formation and the like), and car handling is initially tricky - as you'd expect.

The graphics are a knockout. Certainly the one V8 track on the demo, Phillip Island, is flawless. The menus and maps are awesome, too.

And something for everyone. In touring cars alone (and there's off-road, classics, sports, open-wheelers and oval sections as well) you've got the V8 Supercar series, DTM, European V6, Supertruck, Type-R Trans and Clio Cup. Plus, the HPDC V8 Supercar Series (wonder if they'll change the name to new sponsor Fujitsu when the game comes out) and something called 'International V8 Supercars'.

I think the game comes out next week...? I'm not much of a gamehead, but it'll be a must-have if you have console. Heaps of fun.

I may get through to the finish on V8 Supercars 2 whilst #3 is still on the market.

Its never going to be anywhere near as realistic as true racing simulators such as GTR and rFactor. If you're a motorsport fanatic then these are the kinds of game you should be playing. This V8 Supercars 3 is intended for kids.

Because its by Codemasters.

Play GTR or rFactor or maybe GTL to see what I mean.

Any game where you NEED a steering wheel to play it is invariably going to be worth your time more than a mass-marketable game like V8 Supercars. They would alienate fans if they made V8 Supercars that realistic.

Played the PC demo, still feels like an arcade game compared to rFactor, GTR etc. Haven't had the chance to play the PS2 demo, but will that be better than the PC version??

Real simulator races play GTR, rFactor etc, Supercars never rate a mention in the forums for real simulator racing!!!

Any word on when the full length game comes out? Last I heard was about the 23rd of this month, but with computer games there is always delays....

I got the Demo the other day and I love it I hate the fact you can not drive a BA
but I have done a 1.12.46 around the island I think I could do a 11.8 maybe with a good run but I'm using hard setting

Got it this morning, it's just sitting on my desk, teasing me!!

Why they didn't wait an extra month and base the cars on new liveries is beyond me - the game is out of date the day it comes out, but beyond that, I'm sure it will be a fun way to spend the odd hour or two!

Hey Webber, if you are doing 1m12s at the Island in a BA what are you doing on a Forum seriously though, that tells you straight away the game is WRONG :P I was doing 1m07s in a Renault Clio at Sandown hehe...... Good for a laugh though.....

I'll give it a go, however I will stick to GTR especially when no 2 comes out later this year. Still can't find GTL in any shops around my local area

I like the game I don't think its super acurate . I'll give sandown a shake in the Clio ....If only we had them in OZ that would be a top series
mid mount V6 355 hp in a Clio sounds like a race car to me

I just spent a wet weekend playing V8SC3 on my rother-in-law's PS2 and I thougt it was a lot of fun. The level of realism and accuracy still has a long way to go, but it's a huge improvement on its predecessor.

I like the Clios, they're a lot of fun to drive.

I have only tried Clios and level 1 V8s, Mallala isn't available for either of those two cars.

It may be available for V8 Development series cars, which i haven't unlocked yet.

No Mallala in the game, nor Wakefield Park.
