The Classic 24 at Daytona” Nov. 12-16, 2014 -the first true 24-hour vintage race

Weeeell

I am tempted, but no suitable car, for once

that would be quite a challenge

does anybody fancy to take a Porsche 962 round Daytone for the full 24 hours ?

this makes Classic Le Mans look like childs play

How many current historic racers are willing to put that much time on an engine ?
even the Autosport 3 hours is considered long here the UK

Any serious project considered

Wow, was my first thought. Will they get any entries for that?

Fortunately, it isn't what it seems, but works on same format as LMC. 6 grids, 4 races of 50 minutes each with 5 min compulsory pit stop ain't so bad....

Link to website HERE and appears I've got two eligible cars.

I was fooled by the "the first true 24 vintage hour race" bit

Our American friends at it again, allways partial to a bit of optimistic hype.

still tempted even it i am lacking a suitable car apart form my Porker 914

The format is not a true 24 hour race as you know it. Each team will have multiple cars, I think 4-6 cars. This way no car would do 24 hours, just some 4 hours and only two at a time...I think. So gather up some buddies and enjoy 24 hours at Daytona.

Good job not in UK or we could have 'em under 'Trades Description' Act!

I watched a lot of the in-car from Rolex 24 last weekend, and of course footage of our Cliff in his Mustang there, so have a fair idea of how the circuit goes! Think I would enjoy the Escort there, and it's already fitted out for extra lamps.....

Mike, go for it, your Escort would be great fun around Daytona

Bernie is including this as part of a year long trip that he is organising, so may be able to help with logistics.

24 hour vintage car race at portimao

Hi all just saw the comments on the Daytona 24 hours and thought I would point out that on 3rd/4th October this year Benjafields Racing Club is organising a 24 hour race at portimao for vintage cars to celebrate the 90 th anniversary of the first Bentley Le Mans victory.
Unlike Daytona this will be a proper 24 hour race......
Web page is here:http://www.benjafields.com/events/24-hour-race-2014/

Why Portimao a circuit totally unsuited for Pre War Sports cars.

Most of the Bentleys will be made last week so should last.

Brave concept but daft idea.Hope it works but in wrong place.

The Daytona thing is a good idea as Historic racing in the States needs a kick as is gradually going downhill.

Be difficult to fill grids.

I would not dismiss running a replica. HSR are pretty loose with their eligibility. If you are serious about wanting to go, I would enquire about your car being accepted.

Hi Cliff, just realised it's Feb 2nd. How was Jan 31st this year.....

Re Daytona- Let's put it this way, I will be taking a serious look at the costs and logistics of going with a car.

Just surfaced - busy as ever & I'm sure it will be the same next year even though everyone already knows the deadline!

I would highly recommend Daytona as an experience, may give it a second go myself - let me know how the research goes, as there are always alternatives

Hmmm, interesting. I've raced at Daytona before and it was a great experience. Definitely worth doing in my book. Managed to fit in a quick road trip down to the Keys along the way. Bernie arranged all shipping and it was well organised. Seems I have an eligible car too. Anyone know what the regs are - USA version of historic racing is very different to EU.

John,
thats easy to answer
on Portugal, they are quite happy to take anybodies Money without bickering

in the UK and most of mainland Europe planning restrictions apply
running a true 24 hours is only possible on very few circuits

most UK tracks have a 18.00-9.00 hours race engine noise curfew

Ps I think rudolf's post has the correct reasons why portimao has been chosen: I don't think there is a neighbour for miles

I've just received an 'entry pack' for this and first thing to note is that the entry fee is circa £1500 at today's exchange rate. That's (small) enough to get my interest, so now need to get low down on permitted tyres. If slicks are on the list for Gp2 'sedans' then my interest will probably move up another notch....

Just saw this thread. Are the Americans saying it’s the “first 24 hour race for vintage cars” or is that just Rudi? As far as I am concerned the first 24 hour race for vintage cars was the “Deux tours d’horloge” organized by Van de Vyver in 1992 at Paul Ricard.

The initial blurb did suggest a 24hr race, (bit of over-hype!) but turned out to be same format as LMC, 6 Plateaus doing 4 races each during the 24 hrs.......
