Positives from the 2006 racing season
Being someone who views the glass as half full...
Have I left anything else out? |

The reverse grid was the best thing to happen it gave the back markers a chance to guage themselves against the front runners.
How close has the driving become right across the whole field compared to last year. dont matter if you liked or disliked the format it certainly made the back markers lift up a few notch's in fear of being crashed out of the main game for ever |

James Courtney. Just missed that top 10 spot and couldve fought Steven Johnson for 9th if it wasnt for that crash.
WPS with Larkham shaping up as a respectable effort. |

Yes Courtney will certainly be right up there next year. The qualifying effort of Briscoe at Sandown was another highlight for me.

yes the qualifying of Briscoe, Courtney was awsome in the second half, i thought GT did well to keep a level head after the enduro's.

Win-ton coming back to the Circus.
And the announcement of the 2007 calendar (happened in 2006) with Winton holding a "double banger" round (Main & development series) It's OK Coch'o, we understand how much you need N/East Victoria, all the other states don't want to stump up $$$$ for your traveling street circus. Long live the permanent tracks. |

Winton for sure
Jamie, Frosty, Will, the Scarecrow, Adam, Shane, Jack, and Thommo The Fujitsu series and the big fields the warmth at Bathurst Side by Side and four wide at bahrain Big Thanks to Ch ten, who really at the end of the day have given us a great series through their promotion. I just hope 7 can do it at least as good The most dissapointing thing was the decision to drop reverse grid half way through the year and also the point system change as a result (oh and obviusly the titled being decided by smash up derby as opposed to racing) |

While i will quite happliy admit Rick had (?) become less of a hazard on the racetrack, i would hardly call his latest behaviour mature. |

Sorry, we're supposed to be positive here, the great thing is that the points system has revealed that it does not reward winners, if we can now get rid of compulsory pitstops when not needed, we may eventually get a championship which rewards a superior DRIVER !!!!!!!!!!!! Please, can we not let this thread dissolve into another Kelly-Lowndes argument...

i think 2006 will be remembered for the performances of the next generation of young drivers:
Winterbottom Whincup Jason Richards Dumbrell Courtney Price Jack Perkins All these drivers have performed above expectations and have given the older established drivers a run for their money. Expect 2007 to be the same |

The one positive I can see is that the new young breed of drivers are stepping up & matching it with the much more experienced drivers.
Winterbottom coming 3rd, Whincup 10th & Courtney 11th in his first season, Davison, etc ... these will be the guys to keep an eye on in the years to come. (Sorry Mickcals, didn't mean to copy, you must have posted while I was typing.... great minds think alike??) Last edited by GoLowndes; 11 Dec 2006 at 10:01. |

Winterbottom, Whincup and Davison...although Ford boys damn these guys impressed me.
Tander, Jason Richards and Steve Owen. Tader was blistering quick, J Richards in a car that lets face it isnt as competitive as some of the others he made it hummm at times. And Steve Owen had some pretty darn good runs throughout the year. And bring on the young guns, great to see the younger lads up the front and cant wait to see them up there next year |

I see more negatives than positives. That's what happens when entrepreneurs take over sport, I guess. Ratings and dollars consume all else.
Searching for positives (amongst the blueprint, overseas races, LCD racing we've been served in the search for ratings and dollars).... While we wait to see how this 'salary cap' deal is going to work (I know someone working on that - he was once an alternative PM. He's struggling with it.) ummmm.... Positives... hmmm... I can't go much further than putting hands up for some of those drivers punching above their weight. Steve Owen has to be there, so does Dean Canto. Mark Winterbottom too. Maybe Jason Richards. Not many other positives. There's got to be some in there though. |

For me personally it was the improvment at GRM and the performances of Dean Canto and Lee Holdsworth.
Looking forward to next year ... stronger engines and the new VE |
