Not Happy Larry
What a Professional is our LARRY love him or hate him, He crashes his car and then tell the fans it was driver error,No dummy spits, no wobblys, no language, Lets just get on with it and get the car fixed for tomorrow. After about 27 odd years he knows the deal! Starting from 10th isnt a big deal,He won from a lap down once didn't he?
Maybe some others should take a leaf out of LARRY'S book on how they should act after things fall apart! |

yeah was 95 I think , Larry and Ingall won from a lap down.
was an odd crash but as you said to his credit he accepted blame with no problems at all. Dunno if they will win but I hope they have a good race and larry can concentrate a bit better |

I totally agree with you A9X05. I think he gave himself a big mental kick in the ar$e.
I think he also realises that you can't do 1 or 2 races & expect to be at the top of your game anymore. I honestly think Sunday is the last time you will see him on the track - let's hope he goes out on a good result. Last edited by dddlc; 11 Oct 2003 at 07:30. |

While it was good to see him admit to driver error but i wonder whether he would've been so philosophical if it had been one of his other drivers that had the accident.

Larry looked totally shattered and extremely humble didn't he. With his years of experience at the mountain, you could tell he was highly embarressed and full marks to him for owning up. I was hoping all of the main contenders would have a crash free day today, ( excluding a certain red Commodore) and thank god it looks like he is still in with a chance tomorrow.

Larry will bounce back tommorrow ( and I do Hope Bounce is a poor choice of words but I dont want to jinx the old boy). Hell finish in the top 10 if the car is okay and knowing Larrys team it will probably be quicker in tommorrows warm up than it has been all weekend.

It was driver error but I think that Larry will stay on for Sandown and Bathurst next year.

I think we'll see a modification to that bit or railing for next year. That was almost like a hook the way it caught the front of the car.

For all CAMS screams lately about safety and management, how the CAMS track safety people were permitted to allow anything like that gate is beyond me.
Considering the demands they are currently putting on some tracks (Winton in particular) to then have a gate that allows a car to be stopped dead, ike it did to Larry, instead of allowing it to glance of - well - sorry but whoever signed off on that needs their head read and a period of isolation in a padded cell... |

The damage would've been kept to a minimum if Perkins had just scraped along the concrete wall but unfortunately LP picked out that gate, i just hope they look at that part of the circuit urgently.

However - it raises the question - if Larry found that gate, how many more are there.
It is obviously constructed very well - notice how the car stopped - completely~ |

I was a lil worried when 10 reported that they still had to whack the bonnet down as the pins didn't line up perfectly.
Larry seemed happy though so hopefully he'll have a good day. |

Foxsports are reporting Larry Perkins has retired channel 10 are reporting he hasn't made his mind up. Given his record at Bathurst I hope he does well if this is his last race.

I think Larry put in a very UNprofessional performance in the race today. He held up a pack of 8 cars or more for probably 15 laps this afternoon. Sure his car had the guts on the straights but it also held a characteristic inside line throughout any of the well known passing spots, except for a lucky few at Murrays.
This could be shrugged off as the old guy having a go, but when John Bowe was doing the same thing to Steven Richards and subsequently got punted off, Larry was the first to point out that the blocking justified a tap and Steven Richards should go free for it. I think Brad Jones comments on the issue were very professional considering his loss on both counts! |

I notice today that a whole new fence was put in there- yesterday they just replaced the damaged portion.
BTW- does anyone remember the days when there was no fence there? Those days only ended a couple of years ago. Also interesting that there is now a massive concrete wall the whole way around the top of the hill... |

I think LP has run his last race, he just seemed out of sorts in his stints today.

Yeah, for a good while there Larry had a queue of a dozen cars behind, when Richo Jnr would have been ****ing off into the sunset..

I thought that incident with LP & Jones was amusing especially with the way Larry was doing the job of the Safety Car this morning.
