With Tailem Bend and now supposedly Malaysia on the calendar for '18 this is probably a pertinent question.

I guess at some point we're going to lose Sandown, and Winton seems to be perennially a bit vulnerable.

Seems to be a logical replacement for Sandown it's days seem numbered wonder where the endurance event will go though

Surely Tailem Bend is the logical replacement for Sandown, along with the enduro?

In some ways yes but commercially I wonder how 2 x 500km events in one small state per annum would go? (sorry SA members but not the biggest population base).

Can't help thinking that one might at least partially cannibalise the other.

Finding a suitable venue for the 500 post Sandown will be important though and as a facility, from what we've seen the bend would be good, as would one or two other tracks - whichever the location, in my view it would be better to pick the venue and stick to it so some tradition is built.

They'll definitely be racing at Sandown until 2019, depending on an FIA safety inspection after this year's event.

Tailem Bend however is expected to be complete in January of next year, and they are expecting a deal to have a Supercars round for the next season so it seems certain that in 2019 if not next year that the two tracks will both have rounds in the same season.

I reckon it would work due to the enduro aspect. (I hope 2 big rounds works regardless)

The "lead up to Bathurst race" marketing would give it a boost here in SA

Sadly i don't think a million signatures on that petition will do much

It's like Oran Park, the ending has been mooted for ages and is now just around the corner

And just like Oran Park, nothing is there to replace it....

I'm just glad I lived in a time where I could watch racing at Amaroo Park, Oran Park and Calder Park and so on, awesome circuits all missed!

Hardly. There is a new commercial reality in Supercars. Drivers like Courtney and W. Davison may as well be upfront about more realistic expectations for upper midfield talents these days -- else no one will hire them at all!

*IF* they could perform like a van Gisbergen or McLaughlin they would still get their old salary (as negotiated back when they were performing at that level), but either due to equipment or driving talent they no long are making those kinds of performances and hence salary expectations must be adjusted, especially with less sponsor revenue about the place...

In NSW, there is only one near Sydney..

I am still waiting for Kalgoorlie 500...

Yep and we (ie the sport) will regret this obsession on spending on street circuits in the years to come.

Unless you can win over Racing Victoria, Sandown will be a housing estate in the very very near future. Racing Vic has plans already for the $$$ they get, afterall, they have Caufield, Flemington, Moone Valley, Pakenham. Unfortunately, Sandown is expendable.

Just glad I visited there lots during the late 70's

With Sandown on the way out, there will be no permanent circuits in close proximity to Melbourne. Unless you count Calder.
