Historic Race Meeting New Zealand

Going to Pukekohe race track on sunday to watch Historic Race meeting,F5000 cars ex Warwick Brown 1977 Australian Grand Prix winning Lola T430 and a Lola T332, should be good to watch, I'll try and take some photo's.
How about the entry price !cheap A! and you can walk around the pits no worry.

Pity you can't record some sound!!

Looks like a good meeting - those F5000s will shake those shakey Isles and reverberate around Pukekohe - love to be there!! Look forward to your pics

Should be a good meeting, but Pukekohe would have to rate as NZ's most boring track and with the worst facilities in the country it will be a while before I'll bother going back to it,although I understand they are meant to be upgraded for the V8's so I hope that will change.

If you like that type of meeting there is a similar one the Skope classic (used to be the PDL) 1st/2nd Jan at Ruapuna, unfortunately due to other racing commitments I get to miss this for the second year in a row, have a good time at Pukekohe!

Evocative shots RF - the FM2 looks much nicer than it ever did in period!
How difficult would it be to add the name of entrant or driver of these cars?

#6 Lola 332 1974 5000cc driver Ian Clements.
This car was delivered to Carl Hass in the USA in 1974,it was sold to Gordy Ofterdahl and raced by Bob Lazier in the USA.

Great pics racing fxgt. Was the Broadspeed ever raced in Aus, as I think Brian Foley raced 1 in Castrol colours.

I think the Lola 332 comes from down here as I've seen it out at Ruapuna during the week at some test days, both it and another 332 owned by Stan Redmond used to race down here, although I was told Stan sold his overseas.

I've also seen the Begg FM2 at the PDL meeting along with a later Begg 018? ex Stu Murdoch, awesome cars,I think they should ditch F1 and go back to these.

Any Indycars up there as well?

Thanks for all the great shots racing fxgt, there ought to be some sort of award for you!! Keep up the good work. Not sure if the Broadspeed is the Folet/Stewart machine - as far as I know it is still owned by a fella in Sydney. Suppose it could have had an airing or maybe its changed hands. (have a black mac on me!!

I suspect the car listed as a Merc was actually one of the Matamata-built MER cars

Awesome! Looks like a great historic scene down there!
I suspect the little Lola FF2000 is the ex-works Mike Blanchet car. I have good memories of Hailwood in the Lola F5000. His mechanic was Malcolm Malone who lived near me here in the UK. He died back in '75 when he looked after another Lola, a T330 for a guy called Nick Wattiez who I was 'gofer' for. I also remember a guy called David Oxton racing a Begg over here in '73 in F5000. It was a 'mustard' yellow colour with a massive air box.

Hello Andrew from downunder, I too have fond memories of Mike Hailwood, from his Aussie Tasman Series exploits and his magnificent motorcycling talent. I wil never forget him wrestling with a Surtees? at our now defunct Warwick Farm maintaining a racing line with bags of opposite lock time after time. How tragic that he and his son were taken from us by a (drunken?) truck driver. Why are so many of the good ones taken from us? (don't answer that).

We have a fairly good Historic scene over here in Australia as well, have a look at the NSW HSRCA website and Victorian and Queensland outfits:

http://www.hrcc.org.au/
http://www.vhrr.com/

Cheers and all the best in Motorsport
