More news from the enginr guru today. Crank is still usefull. The motor is now being stroked a little, cooper rods are going in, pistons machined down for clearance and dished for a little less compression. Capacity should come in around 1380cc, so i am happy now. I was also given a twin SU manifold today, so now i just need to find the carbies to go on it. Gearbox is ok, just 2nd gear syncros need machining. A new clutch is going in as well, with the flywheel lightened a bit.
And Morris, that has already been spoken about and will be done. Hopefully i should have the motor back in the next couple of weeks. Last edited by mtpanorama; 22 Aug 2002 at 12:27. |

I have some carbys if you want them.
Check the fuel pump before the motor goes back in, that is if it is running the mechanical pump! (todays job was rebuilding the fuel pump on my 1100) Last edited by Morris 1100; 22 Aug 2002 at 13:07. |

No need for the twin Su's now. A single 1" 3/4 is being built. Same fuel flow as a single webber, without the hassles of a webber. Thanks anyway mile:

ITS ALIVE (just).
I put the motor back in the car today after a longer than expected build time(mate of a mate......). We started it yesterday out of the car and it ran fine, just a water leak to fix before putting it in the car. Put the motor in the car and got everything hooked up and turned the key.............it turned over but wouldnt fire. After about 20 mins of searching we discover that the points were earthing out, so chuck in a new set of points, turn the key...............it fires, but only on 2 cylinders. Lots of head scratching as it was running on 4 yesterday. Then we remember the little incident when we were putting the engine on the back of the ute when the motor tipped over, closer inspection 2 broken spark plugs. Put in new spark plugs and turn the key...............it fires, on all 4 cylinders and runs perfectly. I am a happy boy now. So just a bit of tinkering over the next couple of days, like replacing the radiator hase that has now decided to leak, puttind a new thermostat gasket in, and the thermostat, and trying to remember where the last few bits apeices i have left over go. But you always have to have a few bits left over. Then a journey to my mechanics to get the timing reset and just to check the tappets and to make sure everything is still tight and then i have a couple of thousand kms of running in and then i can see how it goes. |

Moff,
It was a 1275 which has now been taken to first oversize, which makes it 1310, the crank has also been machined a bit to change tha stroke, so it is now about 1340. The head was shaved a bit, the cam has had a mild grind, the block has been decked a bit and the pistons shaved to clear the head. The carby has had some work as well as the inlet and exhaust manifold. Started no probs this morning, just waiting for a few bits to turn up tommorow and i should be driving it home tommorow arvo. |

I once had a Clubman GT with a 1310, 45mm twin choke Webber and 2" exhaust sytem. Plus the best bit - some English Mags called 'Cosmic'. Not the most reliable ride. But a lot of fun.
