Pre race hype did not live up to the
actual race. No Germans on the podium. A couple racey moments. Overall a safe uneventful club race. Nice to have both redbulls on the podium . I guess its been a while. 3 Last edited by canamman; 31 Jul 2016 at 13:57. |

didnt quite deliver in the end but some good sraps and some nice overtakes. suspect it will produce a much nicer highlight clip then a full race.
gave it a 6 but it could have been higher had this race occured after the summer brake rather than at the end of a run of 6 race in two months. |

I felt the race never really got going. The only driver who could challenge Hamilton was Rosberg, whose poor start meant Hamilton just shot off into the distance and once Rosberg looked like he was getting back into the race, he got penalised. A great drive by Ricciardo but despite his effort, he was never going to touch Hamilton.
The highlight of these last few races has been some incident or other involving Rosberg. 4 |

3. There was some some excitement at the start. I did think that the Max versus Nico fight would be more interesting at the start - Nico only got the job done much later on - and for that he got a bit of a harsh penalty. Rather puts the dampeners on everything. I also thought that maybe we'd have a Red Bull and Ferrari fight - but it just wasn't to be. Only memorable battle was between Nico and Max. It was not a great race.
Let us hope that Spa will deliver. |

6 from me. Would have been a 5 but I didn't drop off so it gets an extra point. Moderately interesting (although I only watched the highlights).

7. Some pretty racy stuff in the first few laps, then fell into a bit of a hole (made worse by the cameras following the also-rans and ignoring the top six), and then got quite interesting in the last 20 or 30 laps. For once, the machinations of strategy kept me interested rather than confusing me.

I thought the race was pretty bad, very little happened actually. I gave it a '4', but it could easily have been a '3' as well. Very uninspiring

About a 6.5. I think some of us might be watching too many other racing series ie. touring cars, and expect great F1 races as well, but F1 has never really delivered apart from the rare season where there isn't a clear faster team. 2007-2009 for instance. Or we have a faster team that's unreliable, or not such a good driver to make things more exciting. But apart from that, we go from domination from McLaren to Williams to McLaren to Ferrari to Red Bull to Mercedes. The odd year of excitement mixed in.
Otherwise this was a pretty standard F1 race, with the top 4 or 6 actually pretty close. |

6 for me. Cameras didn't always seem to follow the action.

6. Strategy variations meant that there were some interesting possibilities to engage with, throughout the field....although I got the distinct impression that Hamilton was driving well within his and the car's abilities - any time he was threatened he simply upped the pace briefly......
Nice to see Red Bulls performing well, though, despite Rosberg's inept attempt to bully Verstappen....... |

The problem with F1 is not only a team domination, but also the lack of overtaking. Not the overtaking (or not) on itself is the problem, I would also enjoy a race-long battle where the second car is finally unable to overtake but still offered a nice duel. That is impossible nowadays and has only got worse in the last few(?) years. Cars seem to be specifically built to be put on pole and drive away, and not to be in traffic and follow another car. See Webber in the Red Bull; see Rosberg in the Mercedes; see Hamilton in the Mercedes. Next to that, tires that degrade while you try to follow another car do NOT help to create action on track. It's sad when drivers are advised to have a go at trying to overtake and then have to fall back to 2 - 2.5 seconds to avoid tire degradation. Ah well, we may have another attempt after the next pitstop, or if we're lucky even two. To solve that, one invented DRS. That offered us artificial passing, but not on-track action. Nowadays, even DRS isn't even sufficient. Get the car manufacturers to build cars that can follow other cars, get the tire manufacturer to finally build decent tires, and the on-track action will follow. Until that, I'll enjoy the other race series. |

Seems like the 3 tyre strategy has finally died. Was very exciting the first few races, but teams now have it pretty much worked out.
I was definitely spoiled by the brilliant GP2/3 races. 5 Selby |

I must have to agree with Gert 100%. Now that the summer break is upon us, I don't really seem to care anymore. I keep telling myself, it will get better.....only to set myself up with disappointment.
It seems the topics of discussion are also getting quite stale. I have been a member on this forum for many years and a member on another one since what seems like the inception of the internet. The forum "excitement" seems like it has disappeared. The only hot topics for example are "Rate the race" and much of it is whining and complaining and that is not necessarily for no reason. |

I'll watch the Belgian GP, after that I'm just giving up on F1. |
