I was at that meeting. Spedeworth used to do lap time trials for the general public at some of the tracks between the races that were a sight to behold. I remember we were racing at Arlington Stadium in the good old days where "elf n safety" didn't exist, and a bloke fenced his pride and joy road car big time.
He got one of the track recovery trucks to lift and tow it up the road and place it in a ditch and presumably he tried to claim it on his insurance

Yes, seen and heard it done a few times, whether or not they were ever successful in making an insurance claim I don't know. We used to sponsor
a good friend who raced a 1600 Escort in the hot rods(non contact) and watching some of the antics at short ovals was always entertaining both on and off track! Arlington on a Wednesday night was always amusing.

I used to take my sons to Bovingdon whenever possible to watch the racing on the short oval. The driving abilities of the hot-rod pilots was truly impressive, close racing virtually always guaranteed and, usually, absolutely no contact.

Thoroughly entertaining, every visit. And now the track is a housing estate!
