Pla is a good choice because of his endurance experience. I'm not saying Lopez would do badly, but there's ten or fifteen drivers who's more suited to the task. There's a reason they picked McNish and Montagny to develop the first GP2 car - you know they're not going to do anything silly, and both had a lot of single seater experience.

That's why Carroll is a good choice, and Pla, too. Anthony Davidson would be even better - probably the best one available.

If he hadn't gone off to the States, Piquet would've been good, given that he developed the last one

BTW, I'm surprised there were preseason tests at Barcelona during this week and there are no comments about it. Maldonado, D'Ambrosio and Vietoris were the quickest on the three days where the test were run.

Rodolfo González has been testing several times with Arden, so he seems all but confirmed for that seat. So no Villa in that case... Shame Filippi or Parente won't be on the grid either.

I've been wondering about that. But remember Villa did replace Gonzalez for the Asia Series, and did a great job for himself and pushing Pic along. I assume Rodolfo brings a pile of cash that Arden need because based on his poor performance in testing that would be the only reason they would take him.

I never thought I would be wanting to see Javier Villa on the grid but he's done well since that disasterous season with RE

Yes indeedm from that clip the cars sound like they've got a slightly deeper exhaust note than previously?

Like it much more, reminds me of a (very high revving) DFV sound!!

Pericu, you're clearly a Dani Clos fan!!

So the season starts soon. Should we put down our predictions as to who will take the crown this year. My money is on Sergio Perez for obvious reasons.

GP2 truly is wide open this year. Anyone of Bianchi, Perez, van der Garde, Maldonado, Valsecchi or d'Ambrosio could win the title.

I want to say Bianchi, but as he didn't do so well in the Asia Series I would be reluctant to say he's the favourite. I've never really rated him, but I have a feeling that d'Ambrosio will do very well this year.

Testing is one thing, racing is another. I deliberately left those rookies off the list because we've seen in the last few years how important experience is in GP2, and especially now that this is the third year of racing this car. I've included Bianchi because he is potentially exceptional in a Hamilton or Hulkenberg style, and could win the championship in his first year, especially in an ART. I'm not convinced Pic, Turvey or Vietoris are as good or have the car underneath them.

I'll kick off 2010 GP2 TWPC ASAP, if possible tomorrow.
Wonder if point scoring system will remain the same for 2010.

I agree it's wide open...very exciting. I think the ART boys will have a good season. Good car, two great drivers.
