So what happened to DC.........
He's in a points position, comes in,the team do not expect him,do nothing to the car and he goes out and parks up at the end of the pitlane.
So is it mis-communication,he gets called in by mistake, therefore he's out of the points, annoyed with the team, therefore parks up. He thinks he has a prob, the team don't but he dosen't want to risk it,therefore parks up. No doubt we will get some PR speak from McLaren. Anyone any idea what really MAY have happened. |

they did do something to the car, they tried to solve a problem by refilling the car with compressed air(probably something to do with the valves), clearly it did'nt work.

Coulthard wouldn't "park the car" because he was "annoyed with the team", you fool.
He had a mechanical problem, came in, went out again and then the problem became terminal. |

I'm guessing he had a tech. problem, radioed in to get the team to have a look, came in, team couldn't see what the fuss was about and sent him out, DC heads out again and car dies at the end of the pitlane.
It didn't sound sick when he came in though and it appears the team didn't look for much before sending him out. All a bit strange IMO. McLaren have looked completely at sea all weekend, very unprofessional. I for one wanted an RD interview at the end of the race. |

Fantasy GP610,
On behalf of myself, welcome to this forum and for showing restraint after being called a fool, on what seemed to me, like a genuine enquiry. Guess we'll have to wait for the PR speak - should be interesting!! Like Rubinho, I'd like to hear what 'The Ronster' has to say. |

Thanks for that Pitstop,i have looked at various F1 forum's and found that many are sometimes abusive and frankly silly.
I read this forum for a few months before registering,as it seemed to me to be the most informative and sensible one out there. My question was a genuine enquiry as i am not an expert at F1,and am learning all the time. I had not seen on TV (ITV) anything to do with compressed air/valves etc--that's why i was asking. Enough said........off topic but thanks again. |

Fantasy GPD610 - welcome! On the American feed Steve Matchett (former Benetton mechanic) speculated that it was hydraulics - not compressed air. It may have been a fatal hydraulic failure of some sort.

The way McLaren handled that situation shows a team in massive dissaray & if i was Coulthard i'd gladly hand the car to JPM next year.

If I remember correctly, this is the second time this season Coulthard's car breaks up while he's in the point.
And it also happened to Raikkonen once this season! |

Well according to DC he........
"lost air in the pneumatic system of the engine.I came into the pits to see if we could do something to rectify the situation but it proved impossible and that was the end of that." Two questions....maybe foolish If he had a problem and radioed it in (which you would assume he would do) why was the pit crew not ready for him  If the problem was terminal why pull out of the pit box into a potentially dangerous position in the pit-lane and then park up at the end of it. Thank you for the welcomes |

They were the two things that had me perplexed about the incident, i think that that incident shows how deep the problems run at McLaren.

Previous one was Ralf, not David. So each of the four drivers (Montoya, Ralf, Raikkonen and Coulthard) has lost points because of car failure during the race exactly once this season. |
