"Breadvans" Anglia/Fastback,NZ/Allcomers:where are they !!??

New Zealand motorsport in the 60's a number of "home built' creations were built to go racing in a 'Class' available to anybody 'allcomer' Saloons,Shoehorn a 'High' performance engine in the 'smallest' package and you've got a Winner, stopping and handling were a second consideration (it was;well get to that !!)'Aero' was a new word at that time as strange to the un-educated as "Ergonomics' Is to today( what DOES that mean???)so these 'Creation' started showing up with 'Aero' modifications, flared in headlamps ,'Chopped tops',Scoops, rear boot exstensions, some worked, some rolled over!!but the prettiest conversion was the 'Fastback' Anglias..my friend asked me to post this 'Forum' as he tends ( got two 'doner'Anglias' already) to build a 'Clone' (with permission !!)of a very 'Famous' New Zealand Anglia "Breadvan' as they were affectionately known..so the 'research' starts here !!photo's please..Jack Nazzar ran one, Hamlin- Charles built a beautiful one (they rolled at Wigram durring practise, mid 60's)Niel Doyle built one with a Chev Corvette and 4speed..so its your help we need..all donations over 2k please send to my PO Box...just kidding ;CASH' is OK !!!!

I know that this is not pertaining to the NZ Anglias etc but weren't there 2 brothers racing here in Queensland in the 60's/70's who had a pair of chop-top Anglia 105E's?
They raced at Lakeside.....other tracks I am not sure of.
Their names escape me.
Richard.

I’ve only just seen this thread
Bill Norrish and Ray Stone built the first NZ ‘breadvan’ Anglias for Dave Simpson and Paul Fahy respectively, and they took the first two places - in that order - in the 1966 NZRDC Saloon Championship. Jack Nazer didn’t build his up till the following season, and I think Doyle’s Corvette got its similar treatment at the same season. That year Frank Radisich raced the ex-Simpson car and John Wrad and Rod Coppins shared the ex-Fahey. That was the last year ‘allcomers’ cars were eligible for the championship, but the Simpson/Radisich car continued to race in South Island events for another year or two in the hands of Gary Sprague.
Hamlin & Charles never built up a fastback Anglia - you’re not thinking of their Minisprint, are you?

David

Chapter 11 of the Dunlop Book of New Zealand Motorsport by one David McKinney supports your post!

To widen the topic a little, this Allcomers era in NZ was similar to the later Sports Sedan category in Aus and the UK's Super Saloons a decade or two later but with much more of a DIY flavour.

Standouts from the era apart from the fastback Anglias include Garth Souness' Morrari, a Chev 327 powered Ferrari Super Squalo with a lowlight Morris Minor body draped over it and a rear engined Chev powered Renault Dauphine.

However the most outrageous, certainly the most successful and probably the final straw as far as the authorities were concerned was Robbie Francevic's "Custaxie", based on a 1956 Ford Customline sedan with 427 (7 litre) Ford power once they had sorted out a LSD so the power got to the road it was unbeatable.

Were the Ford TC powered chopped and chanelled A40 Farina's of Ron Rutherford and Avon Hyde from this era or the later OSCAR series?

From memory RR's A40 was a late allcomer (would have to look it up) but I think Avon Hyde's was from the OSCA period. The Collins brothers also had one (the Fordina) but again I think that would have been post-allcomers

Clyde Collins built the Fordina for the last summer of Allcomers. (66/67) After that he ran it in the South island in OSCA before selling it, I thought to Ron Rutherford?

Two points of discussion, didnt Clyde Collins buy the A40 Farina from Jim Mullins ???.........what about the time at Wigram that Clyde 'lunched' the Twincam ,breaking of the front engine mount ,the engine dropping down on to the track, causing it to 'Pig Root',punching the complete drivetrain backwards, bending the diff, etc, etc, etc, doing '****' loads of damage to the 'light' construction.............may have this all wrong, happy for clarification...

Clyde Collins sold Lotus Fordina to Ron McPhail of McPhail Motor Parts, Christchurch who won an Oscar championship in it.

A small point perhaps but the photo on Anglia models site of no.65 on the Ruapuna hairpin followed by the red Escort was taken by me at Skope in 2006. Unfortunately Warbirds over Wanaka chose not to ask permission to use it or provide attribution. http://www.flickr.com/photos/warwick...7594080009654/

Another Anglia fastback

...was that belonging to Neville Valentine of Governors Bay. It was a beautiful red one and the fastback fabrication looked impeccable.

It was stored outside his house under a tree for many years but last time I drove past it had gone. Hopefully someone is restoring it.

It used to be road registered but if I recall correctly he also raced it.

I wonder if you are thinking of this one http://www.trademe.co.nz:80/Trade-Me...-171334218.htm advertised on Trade Me a while ago. Unfortunately the photos have gone from the ad. but it was looking in fairly sad condition. Don't know whether it found a home.
