Live on board camera feed questions....
Hi guys Hopefully someone can help.
We are a ff1600 race team and would like to be able to send a live on board feed from the racecar to the Paddock/hospitality suite. Has anybody successfully done this ?? If so how? We currently have a go pro hero 4 which has wifi we can see 3 routes of how we can do this 1. Over the circuit wifi? (We would probably have to boost the signal) 2. With a sender and receiver. Like you would for cctv ? Where not sure about ranges ect. 3. With 3/4g using a modem ect and steaming over the Internet (this will probably not be very realiable) Any help would be very7ch appreciated. The main circuit we race at and want this setup for is brands hatch (so not a massive track) Thanks Adam |

I think that it would be easiest and probably the least expensive to tether the GoPro wirelessly to a phone via wifi and then use a 4G connection to stream on probably a lower quality than you would normally use. There is an iphone app called Livestream which may work. You will need to securely mount the phone and a scruitineer may want a once over. Go Pro battery doesn't last long with wi-fi so you may need the battery bacpak, and you're phone will be eating data so you will also need to make sure there is enough allowance.
If you already have phone and gopro, try that - at least you can do this away from a circuit and see how long it lasts and what quality is like. I think trying to put wifi in place would be difficult. Alternatively, I got an email from EE last week, touting their new action camera with built in 4G functionality. Apparently this includes live streaming functionality. Costs: until 12july - camera free, but £ 10/m for 2 years, PAYG £ 300 with 2Gb data, or £ 400 with 24gb and then top up data as you need it, or contract from £ 50 + two levels of contract. Edit: Would this be classed as telemetry and could people protest? Last edited by andrewc; 22 Jun 2015 at 15:26. |

There is of course a cost with Livestream... There was a free option, but it may have disappeared. There is a $42/m option.
Maybe the EE Action Cam has some merit... Can you link GoPro to Iphone and then use Periscope or something like that? Last edited by andrewc; 22 Jun 2015 at 15:49. |
