A team can still only change name once every five years I think (and need the other to agree i it is less than five years since the last name change), so they should be ok as they were Force India for longer than that.
Unless the Racing Point name from this year counts as a proper name change and so to change it away from that would then need the others to agree?

I am not trying to stir the pot on this, but given the team is in F1 via new entry and technically have only been in the sport for less than a year. Has the counter been reset? I can't remember the details of why they re-entered the championship as "Force India" even while they were "Racing Point". Maybe continuity for sponsors who already were tied to the Force India name?

The name came about from two circumstances :

The team had to change name, because it was a new entry, the previous entry was not part of the sale.
The name of the car had to remain, because the chassis is registered under that name with FIA.

So the latter half of the season consisted of company - chassis.

They are lodging a request to the FIA in December to enter under a new name in 2019.

According to the FIA the team formerly known as Force India will in 2019 be known as Racing Point F1 on a list published by the governing FIA on Friday.

The chassis name was listed as Racing Point, with the company name Racing Point UK Limited.

'Racing Point'. It's a name that sounds a bit anonymous to me, it reminds me of Midland that the team was called at one time it a name without vision.

I know that it is difficult to come up with a name nowadays that is different and conveys your message that has not got '.com' at the end of it.

1. It's going to be a long winter until the start of 2019 season as God knows what else we will talk about until then.
2. I actually am curious to see how Lance does in a better car.

despite the legal shenanigans no doubt at play here, Racing Point, imo, was a terrible name so i am glad to see it go!

From what I’ve read they don’t need approval of other teams nowadays. I also don’t think that they need the company name to match the racing entrant name.
