Montreal GP
I am heading up to the Montreal GP for the first time this year and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the best place to sit? I attended the USGP last year and had average seats and had wished I had just purchased General Admission tickets. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts.

I haven't been for a few years. Stands 11 and 12 in the Senna Curve offer the best view as do the stands in the Hairpin. All in all, it's a great place to see a race though the general admission viewing opportunities are VERY limited-in fact so limited as not to be worth the cost.
Make sure that you line up, a hotel as well; it may be too late already. Good luck and have fun. |

We've had a number of threads on this each season, so I'll see what I can dredge up on the Trackside Forum and post links.

Montreal 2007
Here's a thread that I started and contributed to from last year about the Montreal GP:
Montreal's GP: why it's so much fun for spectators, drivers, teams This year the race returns to its normal date on the second weekend of June (it was moved back a couple weeks last year because changes in the F1 schedule due to the World cup in Germany). Here's a link to my photo page which has lots of pictures from the race, the fun and les F1 Babes from 2000-2006: http://www.pbase.com/bobhebert/ Also, here are views of the track from section 11: |

Montreal transit workers threaten to strike
With less than three weeks to go until the F1 Grand Prix du Canada in Montreal, Montreal transit maintenance workers are threatening to strike in a few days.
Montrealers warned to expect long transit strike Maintenance workers scheduled to walk off job next week Last Updated: Friday, May 18, 2007 CBC News Montrealer commuters are being warned to expect a long strike by maintenance workers at the Montreal Transit Corporation as they are scheduled to walk off the job on Tuesday... The article goes on to report that if there is a strike it would probably not involve a complete shutdown of the metro, which is the main means of transport for the vast majority of fans going to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Some services would be maintained during peak hours on both workdays and weekend days. But during the F1 GP week there is a huge increase in ridership on the Montreal metro, especially on the lines carrying riders to the track, so any kind of threatened cutback is cause for concern. Let's hope that they get this sorted for the sake of both native Montrealers and visiting F1 fans. |

With two weeks to go until the start of the F1 GP week in Montreal (the biggest event of the year in Montreal), the transit strike is on. The metro is still running during peak hours, but that won't be good enough to serve the needs of F1 fans, who need peak service almost all day long to go back and forth to the circuit. Let's hope this strike is settled very soon.
Montreal transit workers strike Limited bus and transit service during rush hours Tuesday, May 22, 2007 CBC News Montreal's 2,200 public transit maintenance workers went on strike one minute after midnight early Tuesday morning, after negotiations failed to produce a new contract... ...The Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) earlier agreed to abide by a schedule outlined by the province's Essential Services Council on May 17. Under that schedule, buses and the Metro will offer full services during three time periods on weekdays: from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 1 a.m... |
