rx-guru should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
A heat starting grid of the 1983 RX GP with:

E = Olle Arnesson (S) Audi
56 = Franz Wurz (A) Audi
9 = Seppo Niittymäki (FIN) Porsche
38 = Kjetil Bolneset (N) Escort
1 = Keith Ripp (GB) Fiesta
36 = Jan Gulbrandsen (N) Escort
48 = Thomas Kraft (D) Escort
16 = Barry Squibb (GB) Escort

Not certain:
39 = Karsten Biksrud (N) Beetle
or
54 = Arild Martinsen (N) Beetle

Three Beetles there in 1983, but the one of Lars Nyström was light blue, not white.

Must be a misprint in the 83 Programme it lists Allen Martinsen in the Beetle?

And in the docs they talk about Tom Kraft and Per Gulbrandsen while Arild is correct there for Martinsen.

Nothing against France where I once found Rakki Allakaki for Matti Alamäki and Kiplil Bobnisit for Kjetil Bolneset...

Couple of interesting things.

1) I thought the Fiesta was Graham Hathaway.

2) Didn't know Martinson drove a Beetle, I only remember him in the Lotus and then the monster BMW. Was Nordstrom or Wahlund not racing a Beetle back then ?

Thanks for the Escort drivers never heard of Jan Gulbrandsen (N) or Thomas Kraft (D). Obviously Squibby and Bolneset were present.

Sorry, but with 1) you are right! Did not check for the sponsoring of the Fiesta and was mislead by the yellow colour. The main sponsor is Team Telecom, so it is in fact Graham Hathaway.

Örjan Wahlund and Mikael Nordström drove indeed Beetles in 1983, but did not race in the GP that year.

Thanks again rx-guru.
So we still don't know the Beetle driver. I assume that's a photo from one of the heats and not the GP itself ?

Defo a heat starting grid. Three Beetles in the starting list. The car on the book is not the Nyström Beetle, as this was light blue by then. If in the video clip its starting number is not visible I dunno how to find out if it is either Biksrud or Martinsen.

Tony, the Beetle on the book cover looks white to me, with a big Valvoline sticker on the right door and Bilstein stickers where the headlamps have to be. That is all I can make out of it. I do not remember about the 1983 cars of Biksrud and Martinsen as they both were also-rans then.

I agree with rx-guru as the Beetle looks white to me and has a red rear engine hood when you freeze the video coverage. Shame its the only time you see it in the video.

Aha.
I believe you are watching a different heat. We are talking about this race I believe -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E7W-...eature=related

This race has both Quattro's Arnesson and Wurz.
Still doesn't help us I know, although it appears we only had nine cars start the race, so no missing car after all.

According to the event docs Karsten Biksrud finished in all three heats, while Arild Martinsen only in the second heat. As the white Beetle with the red engine hood is only seen for a second or two immediately after the start of the third heat I guess it is the Martinsen car.
