Scott Bloomquist 1963-2024
Scott Bloomquist died in a plane crash yesterday in Tennessee. He was 60
He was a late model dirt driver for better part of 3 decades and was one of the best to do it. If you haven't followed Late Model Dirt Track racing in the USA over the years, it's a bit confusing to what is the top level. I couldn't really follow it over the years as different sanctioning bodies, which are very regional as the US is huge, have been considered the top. Scott raced in a bunch of them, winning some 16 Championships over the span of his career, which was still active. According to his wiki page, from 1993-96 he won 60 races in the Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Series, notching championships in 94 and 95, and while leading late in the points in 96, he was docked enough points to cost of the championship because he dumped someone under caution So dirt track of him! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Bloomquist Lucas Oil Dirt Series was considered the top series for the better part of the 2000s. Scott ran almost 500 races, winning 97 and claiming 3 Championships. He WAS Dirt Track racing and epitomized the sport that he was so good at. He still had something left in the tank but lived one helluva life and made a great living doing what a lot of us never well. RIP If you're interested, Dale Jr had him on his podcast recently. Scott was a character and a good talker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya0zRlBueiM |

BTW Scott recently passed (this week). Not in 2014; someone please edit that mistake in the thread title, if we can.

R.I.P.
Ten to fifteen years ago I watched online several dirt late model races. In memory he was sort of Earnhardt from dirt racing. |
