Lovely eclectic and diverse set of photos Bob. A bit sad to see the D50, replica or not, damaged. Always one of my favourites, as was the Tipo 308 Alfa. You done well. Truth is I wouldnt say no to having any of them sitting in my garage. Even the reasonably odd looking Tec-Mec.

Main merit of these images, is their age, all from 2005. Classic

Good selections there, Bob, as usual. Particularly post 606 with the whoopsy and about to be whoopsy moments.

Just to lower the tone.......I've been doing some sorting out at home and came across these pics - which were obviously shot on a very basic camera by an excited teenager in the 60s (me!) - and have now been re-photographed with a mobile. No idea what event - its Oulton Park, obvs.... Cars emerging from the paddock - where nowadays we re-enter the paddock, post-race.
Don't think I've shared them before...... |

Great set of pics, Lancs. Captures the 60s very nicely. Looks like a British Saloon Car Championship race some time after 1966 and early in the year or late in the year judging by the state of the trees.

Nostalgia or what? A little too modern for me to ID the cars.
I love seeing the old B&W of times past, well done for risking the scorn of the likes of me. ( always ready to criticise). I tried to clean them up a little to see if it might help with date and cars, but it does not help much. Oh! But that is an Alfa Romeo. Surprise. |

Courtesy touringcarracing.net and www.progcovers.com I think I have identified Lanky's lovely period black and white photos. The meeting is the 1967 Oulton Park Gold Cup on the 19th September. The race is the over 1300cc British Saloon Car Championship race and the cars and drivers are as follows. Number 100 is Geoff Breakell, Alfa Romeo 1600 GTA, 120, (I think) is Frank Gardner in Alan Mann's Ford Falcon Sprint, 123, Brian Thompson, Ford Mustang and finally 103 is Brian Newton, Ford Lotus Cortina.

However I did find an amateur video of the race, which clearly shows the #120 Sprint in full Alan Mann colours (video link below) That actually led me a bit astray because all the Cortinas in the video were MK2's (the works ones of Hill and Ickx) other than a red Mk1 at the end. Video does show Graham Hill in the #105 LC having an off into the bushes at the end, his helmet visible through the undergrowth. (The race results dhow him DNF Crash / brake failure.) Re the Alfa #100.... The #5 listed on TC.N I thought odd as all other class numbers shown were in the 100's, and coincidentally the Alfa finished 5th in class. Bottom line is clearly far better detective work by GCC to come up with the undeniable proof, so well done over my inconclusive efforts. Thanks for the info. The amateur video of that race (no sound and quite grainy) is here: https://youtu.be/pYQKKlir6sY |

Thanks Chris but it is worth remembering the Motor Racing Covers Project, www.progcovers.com, as it contains not just programme covers but several full programmes with entry lists, lap records, driver profiles etc. By the way the red Cortina at the end of the film is Willie Kay. Lovely film was well, like Lanky's pictures really capturing the spirit of the sixties.

Agree re the period Super 8 movie, very appropriate. Dont know if you spotted in the film Peter Gethin in the (orangey red) AFN entered 911 slowly gaining, behind the two works LC's. eventually finishing 5th outright behind 3 Sprints and a Mustang....1st in the 1.3>2.0 class when Hill and Ickx DNFd. Always a bit controversial to see a 911 in a Saloon Car championship.... actually in 1969 here we had a 2.0 litre 911 score the most points in the ATCC. It lost the title due to its reliability. It finished all 5 rounds with decent points in each but the rules were to drop your worst score. Ian ("Pete") Geoghegan in a Mustang had a no score round so all his points scored counted. Alan Hamilton (Porsche) finished every race but had to drop 4 points, losing a 3rd place outright as his worst score.... and on best 4 results then trailed thus losing the 1969 ATCC by a single point despite scoring the most points overall.. |
