But isn't that also true of any racing? If you finish first, you've set the quickest time by default!

It's works differently in the heats though - the points given are spread across the heats - so you might win your heat but still only be 8th quickest from a given set of heats. So if there are 3 heats of 6 cars in theory it's possible for the fastest 6 times to come from the same heat and the winner of one heat may have set the 13th quickest time overall. The finals are a different kettle of fish as you point out - first to the flag wins.

I only raised the rather pernickety point because you were talking about the finals and I don't like to see you making yourself look silly, Bert...! But now you've redeemed yourself and are, in fact, correct. So well done. |

And to anyone thinking about getting into rallycross: don't worry about all this slightly sad mathematical to-ing and fro-ing between myself and Bert, the main thing is that you don't need a race licence and that's good because it saves you money. Just have a go and find out where you qualify!

Providing the engine has same number of cylinders as original and in same position as manufacturer made it. I reckon 6 tyres per season 6/8 events, depending on how rough you are on tyres! Defo not 1 set per meeting. Generally only doing 20-30miles per meetings in total. Hope that helps, check out some Rallycross websites for more info. |

As ive always been interested in motorsport, i used to service for my brother in the eighties, he was a clubmans rally driver.
Im interested in rallycross, i was thinking of getting a saxo , just a few questions, i guess i can build the car to spec myself? can i just turn up to any rallycross event and go? is there a fee? |

hi found this thread seacrhin for top gear rallycross!!!
i have a mk3 astra gsi which i fancy racing looked at regs and it says in 1600 stoick hatch like hammond this is what it astates 5.5.1.a Stock Hatch cars are 2-wheel drive four seater hatchbacks that must meet the definition of a series production car since 1/1/95. For avoidance of doubt this means any model/type that ceased production before 31/12/94 is not permitted.. my shell is about a 92 but mk3 astra was mass produced up untill 97 so does that mean i can use it? just fit a 1600cc engine instead of the 2.0 ?? theres no engine in it now ? thanks in adance |

For you car to race in stockhatch then it cannot have more than 2 valves per cylinder, therefore must be an 8v car. I assume the Astra is 16v therefore wont comply? If they are 16v 1600 cc cars then they are Hot Hatch then the following applies: 5.5.1.c Hot Hatch The cars permitted are: Any Stock Hatch vehicle that must meet the definition of a Series Production Car since 31 December 2001, as defined in MSA Nomenclature and Definitions (2011 MSA Blue Book, Section B on page 62) and have more than two valves per cylinder. Competitors must be able to produce proof of the age requirement for the make and model of vehicle. The best class for you and your car would be the modified 2000cc class. See BTRDA site for regs and info. Have also PM'd |

Stockhatch basically has 3 capacity splits within the one class: 16v car (Hot Hatch) which cannot be older than 10 years 8v car which cannot be older than 1995 New 1.5 td class Car with more than 2 valves per cylinder can be used but only up to 1600cc and only if manufacturer made it this way. Hot Hatch 1600cc 16v class in above and British Champs is for standard production cars no older than 10 years from when manufacturer ceased production of the that model. |

Hi All,
I'm currently looking at getting into Rallycross. I've got quite a few question about lots of different things. Like should a beginner always start in StockHatch? If so I'd be looking to buy a new car. Possibly 106 gti or Saxo Vtr. What can you recommend? I currently drive a Cliosport 2L. Would it be worth converting this? Or would the 2L class be too expensive and too much for me to handle as a beginner? I also have a lot of questions about getting the car to the events. Am I going to need to buy a van and a trailer? Could I use an A frame? Any questions answered would be appreciated. Even a number for a contact of someone official or very knowledgable. I'm a 20 year old Aircraft Mechanic living in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. |
