Not Ivor Bueb…
While you're looking for, just another: Cherished child of Buenos Aires, I was famous for my aerobatics performances before starting to race at 22. It is said that the great Juan Manuel F himself took me as a driver model. Loved so much the single seaters that my daily had the steering wheel in the middle of the cabin (like a Mac Laren). |

Yes sir, Raymond Sommer aka Le sanglier des Ardennes. His last drive was in a Cooper-Jap. Well done! Making some search will tell you had a strong hostory between Ferrai and Alfa Romeo. Congratulations.
The second name is not Oscar Galvez, El Aguilucho, sorry. But his life is very much related to Buenos Aires. And OK, a certain relashionship with Ford road cars… Last edited by Gerard C; 23 Jun 2020 at 13:28. |

can not think of another Argentine driver who Fangio would have looked up to, but he was fond of Marimon, 22 on his debut. Gonzo does not fit your criteria, but Onofre was a Buenos Aires lad.
Maybe Juan Bordeu, he was a protege of El Chueco! |

I ow you apologies because its not born in Buenos Aires its born in Paris and dead in Buenos Aires so sorry again.
The name you're looking for is Jean Pierre Wimille. Other clues are: center steering wheel and Ford, he designed his own car, only three were made, Ford V8 powered. Strange enough Wimille, Sommer, Rigoulot, Gordini, Balsa and Grignard for instance all those names I heard a lot by Mum. I met Grignard a lot of times and Balsa helped me a lot to start with Porsches. May be you can find a connection between JP Wimille and SOE. |

The real thing or a pedal car? I died driving a Simca Gordini probably the same type my Dad owned.
Mais tu ne vas pas t'en sortir comme ça, coyote! So he's a Scot' and has something in common with Raymond Sommer and… U! A brand you like and a country you love… |

Hehehe I was thinking of Peter Whitehead, though the Scottish born threw me.... Whitehead was born in Yorkshire, as was I, moved to Australia for work in 1938 (I did same in 1983) and drove at Bathurst a few times. Other than that he wasnt that similar.
I will have to look up Flockhart later on....busy day out today. |

Off the top of my head, Steve Boultbee Brooks lovely Aston Martin DB3S was run by an Australian team in period (Kangaroo Racing ?) so possibly the HWM was as well ? When I get home tonight I will have to do some revision !

Quick piece of googling reveals that the HWM Jaguar was the second chassis built and purchased by Tony Gaze, the Australian World War Two fighter pilot who also persuaded Lord March to turn Westhampnett airfield into Goodwood circuit.
He purchased the HWM in 1954 before going on to found the Kangaroo Stable in 1955 which used three Aston Martin DB3S' driven by Gaze and five other Australian drivers. So the HWM pre dates the Kangaroo Stable but presumably the Kangaroo relates to Tony Gaze's ownership |
