Cockpit adjustable ARBs in F1

Have they ever been used in F1?

Yes.

They were banned I think, but I can't remember when or on what grounds. Same thing happened in most other major single seater championships too (?).

Banned? Really? I missed that one. Been a part of racing for so long I've assumed that the drivers can still adjust the anti roll bars from the cockpit, as is the case with many forms of race car.

Very surprised at this, I would have assumed with the amount of adjustment from the cockpit on an F1 car that bars were still in play. Interesting.....

Was it allowed in 1991?

Yeah - they were in common use at that stage.

Safety? Get the adjustment wrong (turn dial the wrong way) and end up in the scenery? Banned in our series also.

I don't think you would get enough of a difference to 'end up in the scenery'. Not unless you can make a massive change or you drop off the end of the bar.

I guess all driver modifications are banned? (other than brake bias). How far could this have gone? damper changes? spring rate changes? I these were all banned before the engineers could fully exploit it.

Don't forget that 2009 spec F1 cars have driver adjustable front wings.
