DNQ should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lakeside Lap Records

I was justing looking at Racetime.com.au, and noticed that the formula ford lap recored was set in 1999 by Garth Tander. The Lakeside program from the Konica V8's reported it as 1990. Which is correct? I assume 1999.

Also, how fast do you think an F1 car would go around Lakeside? In 1994, Paul Stokell took his Reynard 91D around in 46 seconds. Do you think a Formula One car would go under 40? What about a modern day Formula Holden?

Ok - think I have fixed the confusion for you.

I had the year wrong - was 1997, not 1999 - has been corrected.

Lakeside have a habit of not quoting their lap records for some reason - they also seem to forget some of them (Formula Ford in this case).

Garth Tanders record i correct - it was broken by Greg Ritter in the first race and Garth in the second.

The previous record had been held since 1990, however, there were doubts about the authenticity of the lap record (manually timed) and also the eligibility of the car setting it.

I've heard some corker stories from FF in the early 90s....manyof them involved a nitrous can

F1 car around Lakeside- I believe the fastest unofficial laparound Lakeside was set in the early 90's by an Indycar just before the Gold Coast race. I believe the track isn't licensed to run winged open wheel races- the last FHolden that raced there was a couple of years ago, and that was Bob Power...sadly he wound up in the fence with a broken leg

More on this after I eat and go to cricket...

A new lap record was set a recent meeting when Ron Lange in the Gemini's beat Rod Dawson's record set back in 98. There was always the suspicion (a fairly real one) that Dawson set his time getting a massive tow from a HQ...

Lange set his time in a night race, in the cold air, with headlights blazing. What made his lap all the more special was the fact that he passed 6 cars on the lap...so he wasn't always on the recommended racing line.
